If you have one, how do you like it? how well is it made like is this a "remington 870" or is it a low grade gun? I see there under $500.
How many does it hold? looks like 4-5? It looks very cool lever action. :)

I have a Winchester and a Marlin. The Winchester sits there and the Marlin gets all of the attention. Put a Williams sight on it and have yet to miss a hog or deer with it.

I've owned at at least one 336 and as many as 5 since 1967. Currently own 3.

I like and use both.
Personally I think the older 870s are better made than the newer ones.
IMO the Marlins have gotten better.

I just sold one.... I decided to keep the Model 94 that I have instead, but not because the Marlin was anything aside from a good gun, mostly because my dad gave me the Model 94...

I liked mine the whole time I owned it, and I sold it to a friend because it is a good gun....

do you know where to find a 30-30 ammo belt/bandolier? if I bought a 30-30 marlin I would like to get a ammo holder (old west theme)

The Marlin 336 design is traceable back to 1893. The major design difference was that the 336 receiver was enclosed in the back right, making the structure more rigid, and the bolt was rounded.

If you read American Rifleman magazines from the 40's or earlier, you will find that these lever actions were preferred by the Eskimo's because they functioned in the -40 F weather. The M336 design is a proven design made out of quality materials.

Mine has the cheap wood, but it is still a well built rifle.

This nice sized muley was felled by a single 30-30 that tore through the chest organs. Nope, this animal did not die laughing that a hunter would actually shoot at him with a 116 year old cartridge.

30-30 is a keeper! Marlin still builds 'em right. But lever action carbines are not for everyone. That's why they build many different action types for wide diversity of hunting cartridges.

Good hunting to you.

I am not a hunter, But this rifle I really like because its western. And the lever action is really nice. Thanks for your input I might just get it.

What do you say a good price for the marlin 30-30 $400-$500? I see on GB $400 but it has not ended.

Will this make a good range gun, not just a "hunters gun" ?

I've had both the marlin 336 and the winchester model 94 AE (Angle eject). I prefer the marlin much more. And while I normally hunt deer and elk with 7mm, now that I've discovered 30-30 WIN 160 GR FTX LEVERevolution; which is a pointed tip bullet made for tube magazines in lever action; I get more velocity, energy, and flatter shooting. I've started using my 30-30 marlin much more.

336 or 1895-both are awesome rifles. I load 125 grain Sierra FNHP with VV N120 for a light recoil, superfun plinker/deer stopper. Shot a deer with it at 60 yards this year. DRT!

The 30-30 is a great hunting round. Does the job, but I have given way for a .25-06 when it comes to my deer rifle. It is also a Marlin. I am a Marlin person. Model 60, 2 336s, and a XL7.

Really thanks guys for the info, If more people would like to post please do :)

How much of a kick do these have compared to a 7.62x39?/5.56?/20g shotgun?

Do they come pistol grip or stright? I heard they come in both?

I do not know:confused:

I have a model 94 pre 64 that is superb. I also have a marlin 336w. They're both great lever guns. But, no one will ever get me to believe that the Marlin is a better gun than the Winchester. Wasn't it the Winchester and not the Marlin that won the west? Winchester is THE real cowboy gun of yester-year.

I sure get a BIG kick out of both my 30-30s.

I like mine a lot. Being in Ohio I can't deer hunt with it but it certainly sees groundhogs when they become a problem. It is a rifle that shoots very well with no effort. I tossed on a fixed 4x scope and it is a perfect combo. Some people don't like a scope on a lever gun but I find it helps me a bit when in the field. For the money it is one rifle I doubt I ever sell. It puts factory ammo anywhere from 1" to 2" at 100 yards. For a groundhog that is certainly within usable. It is so handy. It could shoot a little flatter but from inside 150 yards you just hold on the little guy and he is a goner.

This is before the 4x scope:
