You have good taste in rifles, young man! I'll fight you for it! ...that's assuming I ever see one south of $1500...
Last one I saw sold was on the Marlin forum and it went for $1800 in decently used condition and no box.

Woof. Definitely going to build one then.Last one I saw sold was on the Marlin forum and it went for $1800 in decently used condition and no box.
That’s a good deal.Actually, Wally world is selling the 336c for 2 dollars cheaper than the 336w.
No sir, I've always preferred irons over Scopes. I'd like to practice enough with the irons that I can be accurate out to 100 yards, just so I can.Congratulations. Are you going to scope it?
I saw on Marlin owners.com that you can just tap it out of it's dovetail mount. Can I do that ?Super easy to remove.
I'm planning on purchasing a Marlin 336 30-30 from Wally world tomorrow. My needs:
1-Flat shooting out to 150 yards
2-Powerful enough to take hefty hogs and the once in a blue moon mountain lion
3- Quiet enough I won't blow my eardrums out when hunting
4- Easy handling and quick follow-up shots
5- Quality enough it'll be in good shape when I pass it down to my future children.
From the looks of it the Marlin fits the bill, but if I'm wrong y'all set me straight.
Did you have a recoil pad on it or was it bare ?This was my first rifle, mainly because it was a lever action and I knew nothing about rifles. For me, too much recoil and report for the range. I'm not a hunter, so in the field it may be fine, but I moved over the the Marlin 20" octagon barreled .357mag and never looked back.
Unless things have changed the 336W doesn’t have much of a pad. I had a Pachmayr 752B Old English grind to fit pad installed on mine. I also had the gunsmith shorten the stock so the LOP would remain the same. It made a noticeable difference in felt recoil. It had a pad, but not much of one
The 336w I recently purchased didn't have any pad. I put an Allen foam recoil pad and shell holder on it. I got mine at the local grocery store for 15 dollars, it's a rich brown color so it goes well with the Birch stock and it holds 7 rounds. Nothing more I can ask for.Unless things have changed the 336W doesn’t have much of a pad. I had a Pachmayr 752B Old English grind to fit pad installed on mine.
