I recently installed the Williams fire sights on my marlin 336. I really enjoy the ease of installation and I am much more accurate with the receiver mounted peep and the fiber optic front sight blade. However, the new front sight blade is much taller than the factory sight so I can't re install the factory sight hood. Is anybody aware of someplace that I could order an aftermarket oversized sight hood? I am just apprehensive to take it out hunting without a sight hood to protect the fiber optics.

I doubt the fiber optic will be nearly as bright with a sight hood shading it from the light.

Williams makes a cut-away hood for them, but I don't know if they fit a Marlin or not?

I put a brass bead on mine and modified a Winchester Model 70 hood to fit the marlin ramp.
I simply couldn't stand the Marlin wide-oval hood as it loooked goofy through a round aperature to me..

I had a 336 with the Williams Liresights and no hood that got knocked around quite a bit in the hills and hollers if eastern Tennessee, no problems without the hood.

I added the Williams peep sight (just noticed it is sold as a set now) and was very happy with the result. I would have kept the whole setup, but that darned gold trigger bugged me, on an all-black rifle (I added a furniture kit from Choate or Ram-Line - can't remember which).

Bottom line, give it a try.

I recently put a Firesight on my Marlin 39 and I found a sight hood on e-bay that has a cutout to allow light to get the fiber optic. It was pretty cheap and seems to be good quality.
