IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A MARLIN MODEL 39, PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER THE POLL!

The Valentine's Day Postal match is just about done, And there's already talk of another Marlin 39 event.

Some have suggested a match that includes a .22 pistol.

This poll is to determine if there are enough of us with model 39s and .22 pistols around to make this fun, or if it will just prevent some folks from shooting because they don't have or don't like pistols.

Thanks for answering!

What if we have both a wheelie and a semi? (S&W 17 and Ruger Mk II for me.)

If we have a two gun postal match maybe we could have 2 categories (and any sub-categories under those): a 39 and a revolver, or a 39 and a semi-auto.

For the record, I voted "Have a .22 revolver".

Well, while we're here...

How would we go about doing a two gun match?

Would we shoot groups with both guns, and average them for final score?

Would we shoot groups with both guns and add them for final score?

Maybe put a card out at 25 yards, shoot a specified number of shots at it with the pistol, and then subtract the number of hits from the model 39s score for bonus points?

There's lots of possibilities!

My thoughts revolver at 25' "cowboy style" = 1 handed rifle 25 yds off hand that would be one set for score.
Revolver 25' two hands still no rest and rifle 25 yds off the bench all at 3x5 cards with some kind of aiming point or not that could be a second round each for score then combine the two for overall that way you could possibly have three different winners. You could break it down to optics and iron sights for another set of winners making it possible for six different people to win something. Everyone likes a chance no matter how slim and everyone likes to shoot as much as they can. Just my thoughts Gus

I like the idea of a one handed "Cowboy" 25' handgun combined match. A 3x5 index card with an aiming point or points that only hits count -- it would make scoring easier. 0-1 hits could earn you the Doc Holiday Shotgun award, 2-3 hits would earn some other acknowledgment of achievement on up to a perfect (6 for 6?) score.

For rifles I wouldn't mind changing the format from group size to another format. Perhaps a Quigley match 100 or more yards on a 3x5 card. Scoring number of hits up to 10, 15 or whatever number is decided and a small aiming point drawn on it representing the X ring for tie-breakers...

Categories scored for both AND combined scores. Limit number of shots rather than divide into auto or revolver classes

I'm up for any shooting excuse... er I mean challenge we can come up with though.

Frank,

I'm in, despite my slightly over-sized dot problem..... (inside joke)

I'd shoot this one with a 39A and a Ruger Mark II with iron sights. Let's leave the optics off the pistols, iron sights only... :)

I like the idea with a hit count on a 3x5 card at 25 yards. Put a dot on the card and fire away. It'd be interesting to shoot 10 shots, five with the rifle and five with the pistol.

On the previous 39 postal matches we have been shooting for groups. I'd recommend we shoot for score on this one. Each shot gets a distance-from-center value. The score is the total of all values.

Thanks for these ideas, Frank.

Alas, I have no .22 handgun ... yet. :(

Someday.

I'll sit this one out but watch with interest. :)
It'll be a motivation to get that handgun!

I do not have a .22 handgun, but you guys feel free to set up a two gun match. Maybe you could expand it to other lever guns to increase the participation.

It's closed!

But I have a 39A and a 39M, as well as a Ruger 22/45 Target and an H&R .22 revolver, so I'd do any combo. :)

I like .22's. The ammo is cheap. Pays for the guns REAL quick, over practicing with centerfires.:)

Let's keep this open to discussion.

Again, I write: I don't yet have a .22 handgun,
(even if I've been looking and dreaming for some time)
but I strongly support a two-gun match
with 39 and .22 handgun.
