A couple of years ago I purchased this .22 from an estate sale and can find no help in determining the date of mfg..Super clean, case hardened reciever..approx 70% overall, no issues..Ser#2828. Any opinions on value? or mfg date? Thanx

Thanx for your reply, however this particular 39A has no letter code, only the Ser# 2828..Nothing on the toptang, on the left side of the bbl "The Marlin Firearms Co.-39-A"..second line<<<NEW HAVEN CONN.U.S.A.-S-L&LR>>> Has he Marlin "S" shaped grip. I think it was made prior to '45 as that is when they discontinued the color case on the action??..Toplot

Thanx for recommending the Buffalo Bill Historical Museum in Cody (I live in Wyoming)..No fee charged! two returned phone calls to me same day..VERY pleasurable people to talk with. My Marlin 39A falls somewhere between 1939 and '41. as for value I'll take random samples in like condition from several online firearms auction sites (with bids) as a guideline. Thanx again..Toplot
