I just picked up my Marlin .45-70 1895GS yesterday after winning it through Gunbroker.com
It looks and feels great.... the only problem is the trigger is extremely loose.
If I tilt the gun muzzle down the trigger moves forward, butt down the trigger
moves back. I also wiggles side to side. It is realy loose.

Every other part seems solid and is what I would expect from a NIB rifle. This
can't be normal can it? Is anyone else's Marlin like this? Anything I can check
for a simple fix?

I've been looking so forward to finally getting this rifle and am now a bit disappointed.

Let me know how it should be.

Don't be dissappointed with the rifle. The Marlin uses a trigger and a separate sear. It is normal for there to be movement of the trigger when the hammer is not cocked. Wild West Guns sells a one piece trigger/sear for about $80 but why spend that kind of money. If you desire a lighter trigger pull, go to the Maurader site and read our articles on the Marlin. The trigger on the centerfire lever actions are all the same.
You have a good rifle, enjoy it.

Jonah, even with the hammer cocked it still moves. P95 suggested it might
be a busted return spring. After more reading I'm thinking there may be more
to it as well.

I'm grateful for more enlightenment.
