Not really where I wanna be
I gave the open sights a try today. I took the cheap Bushnell Sportview off of it and retired that blasted thing after only 2 sessions of not being able to zero it.

I loaded a magazine with federal 510's and fired 4 warm up shots and shot the remaining 10 shots for a group at 50 yards. I lined up the sights with the bottom of the circle (3") and was very happy with the results......

After seeing what it could do I made a correction and aimed right at the dot.....Same 4 warm up shots and the other 10 for a group....I really buckled down this time and was overjoyed with the results.....

I didn't mess with anything before I shot these groups. The sights were left the way they came out of the box.....Marlin must have some idea where to set them to be close at 50 yards. Needless to say I won't be putting the scope back on this rifle until I can't see the sights any more.

It always amazes me how quick people are to put a scope on their rifles when most iron sights work so well. They are dead stone reliable and any rifle equipped with iron sights should be shot in and practiced with to the point the rifle owner knows his rifle intimately and can hit with confidence with them.

Scopes should be the secondary sighting device and used on rifles shooting at longer ranges, not short ranges.

I have 2 M1A's, the Socom will never carry a scope because its function and use dictates iron sights, the tricked out National Match has a high end scope for longer ranges, but is detachable for use with the iron sights.

M1A sights are excellent.

All of my SKS's use Tech peep sights which are excellent and very similar to the M1A sights in use.

Your rifle is a keeper.

Irons are a lot more fun for me, so any rifle I purchase must have good irons already on it or provisions for easily mounting quality irons...

The CZ-452 has excellent iron sights. I really want one of these...

You have several options for the 10/22....one of the best options is TechSIGHTS, which are similar to the sights on the AR-15. You can get TechSIGHTS for the SKS, and soon, the AK-47...

M1 garands and M1As have great sights, as do AR-15s.

My Marlin 336 has XS ghostrings and a scout rail fitted to it...

I love milsurps because most have excellent sights on them...

All of my guns have irons on them. I've never really bothered with scopes all that much...

try a few diff types of ammo, if you can find them, Aguila's, golden eagles, eley, or the cheapest yet very good, American Eagle. They are made by federal, and are in a red box, with a geometric eagle pictured on the front. It is also very cheap, but I have found that in a variety of rifles, both hi and low end, they allways shoot very well. the boxes come in 50 rounds, I never see them in bulk, but you can sometimes find the single boxes on sale for 1.00 now and again.
Even regular priced, they are usually under 2.00 a box.

Oh yeah, Williams does make a rear peep site, that fits on the rail, for the mod 60, and is very nice.

Do you know if it needs a taller front sight, or will the stock front sight work?

A rumor at one time was that Tech Sights was making a rear aperture sight for the Model 60.

I only wish it was true.

If there's another rear aperture sight that will work with the existing front sight I'd like to know about it too.

i understand the feeling of removing a scope out of frustration when it just doesn't want to zero the cheap scope i bought for my model 60 refuses to zero every time i try i just remove it and go to open sights

I have tons of different types of ammo to try....I target shoot with other rifles and have tested many brands. This rifle was purchased to be a "fun" gun. I'm not going to pull my hair out trying to get every last bit of accuracy out of it. For $13 bucks a brick I have a large stockpile of Federal 510's....They have worked flawlessly in every gun I've shot them in.....They get the nod for the 60.

Hi Guys,
Tech-SIGHTS has just released the TSM200 for the Marlin 60 & 795 rifle.

Here is quick look at the sighting system. It makes a great addition to the Marilin rifles.
