Marlin 60 or Marlin 795

Didn't the original M16 manual say "bore cleaning not necessary" also??
I held out for 40 years and finally bought a brand new Model 60 this year.
It isn't a match rifle by any means but the rifle is suprisingly satisfying as a plinker.
I like mine!:)

Match grade

They used to say that the accuracy of a Garand improved after about 500rds
If your Marlin 60 is blued steel it will break.in pretty fast, and the accuracy will improve.
My SS took forever- I resigned myself to it's great appearance, but disappointing accuracy. But it did become a tack-driver - thats why used 60s are a good choice.
Maybe you have higher expectations. You should be able to roll a golf ball around at 100yds. on every shot.

Xmas nostalgia

This is an old post and not very active, but in the spirit of Xmas and "The Red Ryder BB Gun Saga", I will, at the request of one (1) member post the pictures of my Marlin 60s and the old Model 39 (circa 1950 man.) that my dad supported while I aimed and pulled the trigger. That was about 1955 (sniff!)
But it's Xmas and the grandkids are here, so it ain't happening today.

Speed Loader for .22 Tube Magazines

Here's a really handy thing to have, and it certainly takes away most of the arguments for a magazine fed .22!

BTW: I have my original Savage .22 semi-automatic that will allow the operating handle to be pushed in (locks / unlocks the bolt) so as to make it a "Bolt-Action" as well.
This is a handy feature that allows the use of .22 longs (like CB Caps) to be used in my semi-auto. I don't think any of the modern offerings have this option(?)

I greatly prefer the 795. It comes with sling studs already installed (it is much harder to securely attach a sling to a tube feed). It uses detachable magazines instead of a tube... mags allow for a quicker, easier reload. It has a bolt hold open. And it has a weatherproof synthethic stock.

The sling issue is a big deal for me since I like to shoot from sling supported positions, especially in the field hunting critters... it might not be as big a deal to you. It would be if you knew how to use a sling as a marksmanship aid, though! Come to an Appleseed and we'll show you! Along with a few other things. ;)

Whichever one you get, the best money you can spend on it is to get a set of Tech Sights. www.techsights.com

Did I mention take it to an Appleseed? www.appleseedinfo.org

And bring some frineds.
