stay away from anything remington, go with just about anything else, bulk or individual pacs. Stay away from CCI stingers as well; they just proly won't group well for you. anything winchester, federal, CCI, should be good for you.
A 22 , in a calm wind , can easily hit targets out to 150 yds. if you have the elevation, and a good scope, I mean really good, you can hit targets on a calm day, out to 300 yds, really. There is a dude who recently did this, with a 12 lb turkey wrapped in peoples' clothes, to check it's penetration capabilities.
Long story short, rounds penetrated 3 layers of clothes, the turkey, and then the 6 layers of clothes wrapped up behind it.
Usually, with average conditions and a light wind, you should be able to regularly hit small targets, out at 100 yds.
Chances are, your best ammo choices will be this, for accuracy;
anything winchester
anything federal
American Eagle , red box
Remington orange box(made by Eley)
remmy yellow box (made by Eley)
anything Aguila (made by Eley)
anything golden eagle (made by Eley)
anything Eley- notice a trend here?
anything wolf
anything CCi, except bulk pac.
NEVER USE REMINGTON, EXCEPT THE MENTIONED ABOVE!!!!
remmy is the stinkiest, dirtiest, most poorly crimped, unreliable, filthy
etc., etc.
check to see if that rifle will also shoot short, and longs, should say so
on the bbl. if so, don't be afraid of shorts, especially cci , short , hollow point
hi velocity. Also , for backyard shooting, look for Aguila colibri, or super colibri's. allthough make sure when you use Colibri's, they actually made it out the end of the bbl, the colibri's are pretty weak, the super's are a bit stronger.
Lastly, make sure the bbl is freefloated, stick a dollar bill around the bbl inthe shape of the letter U, and move it from the front of the bbl, where the stock begins, and pull it backward, toward the receiver. If it hangs up anywhere, take some sandpaper, and sand out the stock right there, don't be afraid to oversand, becuase you are gonna reseal these spots with minwax,
anyway. Make sure you check this, after firing about 20 rounds as fast as you can, while at the range, so that the bbl heats up first, then you can check the freefloat, with your bbl at it's fattest.
