Kudos to Marlin's customer service department!!!! Earlier this month I purchased a new 1894c lever action chambered in .357 after looking for one for over a year. Upon closer inspection at home, I realized it had a fit & finish issue where the bolt assembly mates to the receiver as well as a couple of small scratches in the barrel and forestock. Okay....lesson learned here....NEVER go to the gun store without my glasses ! Anyway, I sent the rifle back in to Marlin the following day after speaking to their customer service department. Last week, I received the rifle back with a reblued barrel and a new forestock, and they also reported refitting the breech bolt and rebreeching the rifle. However, there was still considerable "slop" in the bolt and an unsightly gap between the bolt assembly and receiver so I sent it back to Marlin for a second time last Thursday. I just hung up the phone with them this morning, and they informed me that they are sending me a new rifle as soon as they do the paperwork....I should have it in about 10 days.
I feel relieved, and I applaud Marlin for standing behind their product and honoring their warranty. They were friendly, professional, and courteous in every aspect. Well done Marlin !

That protrusion you speak of......

where the bolt isn't exactly flush (only by a fraction of a mm) with the back of the reciever is normal. Every 1894c I've seen (I've seen hundreds over the years) had that, mine included. Ya really have to look for it though:D . Glad to hear they're takiing care of your other issues though. They are a great old american rifle maker, that make a first rate product (just look at all the old 1894's around):D

I know about the protrusion you're speaking of...and I don't have a problem with that. On this particular rifle there was a gap all along the entire length of the bolt assembly (about .025" maybe a little bigger) and this allowed for some vertical slop in the bolt which is something I've never seen on a Marlin. At any rate, it has been resolved :)

When you get your new one....

Your going to love it, this rifle has an almost cult following, for good reason.
It's just about the most fun one can have with a rifle. Out of all my guns,
this one is my favorite........Good choice mate;) :D

Marlin is TOP NOTCH when it comes to fixing a problem

And problems are not THAT common with Marlins.

I broke a plastic buffer in a 995 rimfire and called them up for the part, they sent me a new one free.

I'm not saying they'd do that for ANY part, but I thought that was pretty cool.
