So, I got a Glenfield 60 from some guy a few years ago, and recently decided to find out the year of manufacture. The serial is 72xxxxxx. All I could find was an explanation on wikipedia that the ones made from 71 to 2000 were made in the year 2000 minus the first two digits of the serial. Since these things weren't made in the twenties, I'm no closer to getting a year on the thing yet. It also has the cheesy squirrels pressed in the stock if that helps. Any input would be great.

Congratulations on the new old Mod 60 purchase. :)

I purchased my Glenfield Marlin Mod 60 in 1968. I’ve never experienced an issue; all original parts.

Rimfirecentral.com is a good resource for the Marlin series rifles. You can determine the manufacture date here and general Marlin Mod 60 info here.

Post a photo when you have time. :)

Thanks alot for the info. 72 it is then. I put a cheap BSA scope on it and it can hit just about anything I can see. I'll put up a pick once i get better stock on it;)

Post a picture of the stock and sell it here...the squirrel stocks usually command a premium. Is the squirrel pressed in or engraved???

The Squirrels are pressed in I believe. There is a group of horizontal lines pressed on the sides of the fore end also. I had no idea the stock was worth anything:) I guess I'm gonna take some pics sooner than later.

Here's my Glenfield 60. It a little worn on the finish, on top and a couple of other places, I had to rip out the mechanism since they had fallen apart and replaced it with the Mechanism from a Marlin 70 I bought for $10. It works really well and is a far smoother trigger pull and work than it ever worked before.

Still for its age and the heavy use, the rifle has worked really well. Its a 1971 rifle with a cheap arse Glenfield scope on it, but it will hit pretty much anything I point at it and handles most ammo just fine.

That looks just like mine, Limey. Also, any tips for a replacement stock? I've seen the fiberforce ones all over the place, But I don't think they look very good. I've also found the folding stock ones, but I'd like a solid one. I actually got one of those bullpup ones a while ago, but it looks alot better in pictures than in your hand, I don't even know where that junk ended up...

believe it or not, this stock is about as good as you can do, unless you make one from scatch. You can also use a laminate marlin stock , made for 22mags, or 80's, and with some fitting, get it to go.
the squirrely's are nice, the rarest are the bunny, yote, and wolf.
