My dad gave me a Marlin Model 99 and I was trying to do some research on it but couldn't realy find anything. There is no serial # so it has to be pre 1968. There is no letter after the 99 to indicate its a "c" or "dl" model. It has a gold plated trigger, a white spacer between the butt plate and stock, and it is micro-grooved. Does anybody know anything about this model?

The 99 should have a plain semi-pistol grip stock. The "C" has a Monte Carlo stock and the DL is the same as the "C" except with a jeweled bolt. This comes from the
15th edition of Modern Guns. Value in 2005 was around $100- $125

the 99's came out before the mod 60; really the precurser to them. they were a very fine rifle, walnut stock, swivels allready in them , mostly they were imported from Italy , and may say so right on the swivel loops. fully ramped and screwed in front post site, with an actual bead up front. They made several diff models, and a very good model, you can get 150 or more for one. I ran across one not to long ago, bought for 100, and sold for 200, after a bit of clean up.

I have what you're describing. It was my first gun as a kid. I saved up for months to acquire that gun which I starred at in my Shooter's Bible! It was 44.00 in 1961 and mine came with the old metal 4X scope.
Strangely my walnut stock snapped for no apparent reason and it spent the rest of it's life in a parts box.

Thanks for all the help. I'm new to the forums and home gunsmithing. How can I tell if the bolt is "jeweled" if it is a DL model? Will I even be able to tell since the gun is almost 50 years old?

I cleaned up the internals but I don't think the bolt was jeweled so I guess that makes it a 99C. Here are some of the before pictures and I'll post others up as I move forward in the project.
