I've been shooting std velocity Aguila out of my Marvel conversion, but at Saturday's 2700, I had three failures to feed. In each case, the first shot went off okay, but the slide did not pick up round number two, so I dropped the hammer on an empty chamber.

After I got home, I cleaned the magazines (took them apart, etc.) to make sure that wasn't the problem. Today, I took it out to the range and tried both the Aguila and some Federal 714. It functioned flawlessly with the Federal; 70 rounds and not one misfeed. With the Aguila, the first mag had the same misfeed problem.

I'm guessing that some of the Aguila may not be loaded up to specs, so I'm getting a puff round on the first shot that is heavy enough to eject the empty, but not heavy enough to drive the slide back far enough to pick up the next round.

Anyone have the same problem?

Also, I tried both types of ammo in my HS Trophy and HS Victor. The Trophy had a similar problem with the Aguila but did fine with the Federal ammo. The Victor functions with both; no problems.

I tried CCI std velocity a while back, but it would not function at all in my High Standards, so I did not have any to try in the Marvel.

Marvel Has Lighter Recoil Springs Available. Thats What I Did For The Cmp Ammo. It Works Fine Now. Jp

I've been using CCI std velocity pretty much exclusively with my Marvel and, so far, have had very good results. That's with the factory spring.

I checked their website and they only show two weights for the spring; 9 pounds and 10 pounds.
I wrote them an email and asked which one is std for the Unit 1, which is what I have. Will let you know what they say. I'm guessing the Unit 1 comes with a 9 pound, but we'll see.

It does shoot well. Mine had a test target that had a .57" group at 50 yards. I mounted it on a Caspian frame and it's as accurate as my HS Victor.

Federal Champion Target- standard velocity is the best of what I can find locally, without spending the money it costs to buy CCI Standard Velocity. By the way, my Marvel recently had to go back for FTF issues. Ejector needed straightened. Although I like the Marvel, I've been shooting the S&W41 mostly.

I had the same problem using wolf ammo. I called Marvel and they suggested I try CCI. It works fine but I want to lighten the spring too... I prefer the wolf ammo for accuracy.

I have at least a dozen different brands/types of .22 ammunition, just so I can see what different 22’s like. Pistols (especially conversions) are the most finicky; don’t forget to write it down once you figure it out. A piece of paper on the inside of your safes door is a handy place.

Go down a pound or two on your mainspring (I use a 17 and get 100% ignition) and polish the face of your hammer. Also polish the guide rod.

Put some JB Bore paste in the rails and shoot a bunch of high velocity ammo through it to lap in the high spots.

Keep us posted as to what Marvel has to say. I really like my Marvel conversion, but need to develop some trust in it again.

Still waiting. I'm headed to the Regional 2700 they're having in Dallas this weekend. I'll call Marvel when I get back on Monday. I guess they don't check their emails very often.

I have been having the same problem.I am shooting a Ruger slabside. This just started happining, with the older Aguila no problem.

Got packed and ready to go to Dallas sooner than I thought. Gave them a call. They are not usually in the office on Friday, but did get someone to pick up the phone. The Unit 1 comes with a 9 pound spring. They are sending an 8 and a 10 pound for me to try; no charge. Will update this thread once I get them and see what's what.

Range report

Marvel sent out the springs and I got them the Monday following the Regional in Dallas. I have had to wait to go out to the range because its been windy all week (25-30 mph). Finally gave up and went out this morning even though we're still windy.

I installed the 8 pound spring and put 100 rounds of Aquila through the pistol (TF) without a bobble or FTF. :) I think the problem is solved.

I also fired them without putting a drop of oil on the first cartridge as some are doing now. That was not SOP back when I started shooting Bullseye and I never did it with my High Standards.

Marvel did respond to my email BTW, but it was definitely better to just call them.

Awesome. I Had A Hammerli 208 And Sold It Last Year. All I Use Is Marvels Now
