Some tranisitional phase my therapist keeps talkin
Through a bit of patience and a stroke of incredible luck, I'm blowing this taco stand of a state and moving back to the U.S.A. I'll be moving into a house in Chantilly, VA around the middle of July. :neener: No more BS 10 day State Police background check waiting, stupid trigger lock needing, STUPID FRIGGIN' COMMUNIST LEGISLATOR BASHING, up-to-my-eyeballs-in-liberal-pansy-butted-America-haters....

GONE.

On a less happy note, I need to find some new ranges in the NoVa area to play in. Blue Ridge Arsenal is a 5 minute drive, so handguns' covered, (don't really like the place all that much, but it's SO close), and the NRA range is a stone's throw away (so I'll need to renew my membership). I'll still shoot rifle at Quantico, but it's only scheduled on weekends.

I'm still looking for a rifle range that

- is open during the week;
- has at least 100yds, (the longer distances are preferable);
- won't cost an arm and a leg to shoot on;
- isn't going to take all day to drive to.

So, any of my new neighbors know some secret shooting spots?

Bull Run might fit that bill. Havent been there in awhile thou. I like Gilberts myself. They make me laugh most of the time, instead of the cold feeling you get when you ask a question about some weapon and the Beer gut behind the counter looks at you like your wasteing his time.
What NOVA really need is a 200 plus yard Cat Range! Now that would be some fun Sundays there!
Maybe a place that doesnt mark up the knives 150% too. I like Chris Reeves but 600 bucks for a folder? My great great great grandson better be able to use it too!

Get ccw !

No residency time requirement to apply, so get your permit.

I shoot at BRA on Fridays, but yeah, rifle ranges are lacking around here.

3 IW leagues I can think of one near quantico I think... Fairfax, and West by, not far from Harper's Ferry. There's Westlance also in West-by-god-Virginia, but it's about a 2 hour haul, 1 1/2 if you hot foot it...

I hate to suggest this to you but...

in Indian Head, MD off rt 225, is Myrtle Grove Wildlife Management area. Don't let the title deceive you, there aren't many deer... but I digress. They have a 100 yard 8 or 10 lane outdoor range that's $20 / year I think. Since you're local to the area, if you don't already know, follow Indian Head Hwy - 210 South past Accokeek ( Beretta and Benelli factory on the right), into Chuck county (watch for deputies and state cops with nothing better to do than write traffic tickets for 2 mph over the speed limit ), pass the light at Bryan's Road. Next traffic light should be 225, take a left. Myrtle Grove will be a dirt road on your left side about 4 or 5 miles tops...

You can also get to it via 301 south to 225 in LaPlata. Then, it will be on your right side.

Welcome to the Commonwealth, in advance.

Izacc Walton looks good right now. My father used to be a member there (Fairfax), and I've shot on their range a couple of times. A couple of the others sound promising... thanks for the heads up.

Leatherneck... Been a member for a couple of years. Haven't been since last year, (heck of a drive, and since I've been focusing on handguns, there's some ranges closer to Silver Spring that are open during the week), but it's alot closer now, so out come the rifles. Hope they get range 4 up and running soon...

Gotta look into the CCW / open carry.

I'll miss some parts of Maryland. Not many, tho'.

It's nice to breathe free again!

Welcome back to the USA.

If you are going to join the Fairfax IWLA do it soon. They only have 30 some odd vacancies which they will likely fill at their next meeting. Their membership is capped by Fairfax County. It isn't cheap, but it is about the same as Blue Ridge and they have Skeet fields and archery there as well. The IWLA near Leesburg is where I belong and you can email me or PM for details.

My understanding is that the open carry laws are not pre-empted in Virginia. So Falls Church would still be off limits for open carry along with a few other places in the southern and eastern end of the state.

Do get your permit, because as of July 1st permit holders are not restricted by the gun of the month law. This will save you a lot of money by not having to buy a gun every month. ;)

Living in Chantilly hopefully you'll be able to attend the big gun show at the Expo Center the last weekend in July. This is a direct result of Fairfax's five day waiting period being eliminated by the pre-emption law on July 1st.

Also please join the VCDL . The Virginia Citizens Defense League. They do a lot of hard work to get our gun rights back in Virginia.
