Just two items:

1) Don't leave yet.

I know the elections were depressing. Some gun-owner friends are leaving the state and some conservative friends were seriously considering it. I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about it myself.

However, don't despair .... things are not that bad yet.

John Josselyn of the Associated Gun Clubs reports that the unofficial list of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee (where nearly all gun bills have to go through) has a majority (6 to 5) pro-gun:

Known pro gun rights members are: Brochin, Haines, Jacobs, Mooney, Simonaire, & Stone

Phil Lee of MCRKBA.org counts 19 'nominally' pro-gun senators -- enough to filibuster any bad gun bills that get past the Judicial Proceedings Committee.

In short, we have two possible roadblocks to the passage of any new, bad gun bills. You don't have to pack your bags yet.

However, you do need to dedicate some time and effort to gun rights. Pledge to yourself that you'll do that. We're on the front lines here in Maryland. Stopping the anti-gun attack on the second amendment here ensures that it won't spread to the rest of the country. Abandoning Maryland to the anti-gun crowd just means it'll follow you wherever you go. Stay and fight ... it's less work and more effective.

2) Have a little fun and meet some other pro-gun activists.

A) Montgomery Citizens for a Safer Maryland is having a holiday get together - there will be MSI folks there as well as other pro-gun folks to network with:

The monthly MCSM meeting is Tuesday 12/12/2006 at the Wheaton American Legion Post at 7PM. http://www.mcsm.org/location.html

As customary the December meeting will be more of a Holiday gathering than an MCSM business meeting.

Feel free to bring friends along who might be interested in meeting some MCSM members in this social setting.

Let me know if you and guests can come so I will have some idea of the attendance for the food and beverage needs.

Saturday, January 13th near Cambridge, MD. Info here:
