Mikul,
I, too, would gladly vote Libertarian if there was even the slightest chance of Badnarik winning the Presidency, but let's be realistic. He doesn't have a prayer. The vast majority of the American public, to say nothing of the media, is (thanks to Lyndon LaRouche) convinced that the Libertarians are nothing but a fringe group of radical and misguided malcontents. They've never bothered to research thier platform, nor investigate thier beliefs. Nor are they likely to, either. Until the Libertarians can win more local elections, and thus increase thier chances of winning a seat in Congress, no one will sit up and take notice but ourselves.
Now, taking that into consideration, it then becomes clear that one of two men will win this election. It will either be John Kerry, or George Bush. Given that fact, it becomes crystal clear that you have three choices - participate and take a side, vote for a third party candidate who cannot win, or sit on the sidelines and do nothing. Only the first option will have any impact, as the second and third are virtually identical with respect to results. Conscience is a fine thing, but it will be of little consolation when those who do vote that way wind up whining on these boards about some new gun law or assault weapons ban which Kerry is enacting, should he win.
If both candidates respected our Rights, I'd say go for it. Vote your conscience. Sit this one out, if you wish. But because Kerry doesn't, and is clearly anti-gun with a passion, the stakes are too high to throw away your vote when it could mean the difference between maintaining things as they are or making them worse.
