OK Bush haters ---grab yer ankles

This is from the AP:

Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry (news - web sites) touted his credentials as a lifelong hunter to deliver a scathing rebuke on Tuesday against President Bush (news - web sites)'s failure to support a ban on assault weapons.

Did you read this??? Bush failed to support the ban..

See what happens when lanternjaw gets in...

Earlier Kerry stated that he would "never be an NRA guy"

Hay-soose!!

I'm looking in my crystal ball.....

....and I predict you'll soon see and hear one of the White House spokesmen reiterating Bush's support of the ban. He ran on it the first time, he has never backed off of that stance and if pressed they'll come out in favor of renewal. the strategy seems to be depending on the republican leadership in Congress to keep Bush from having to deal with the issue.

So now what Kerry says is gospel?

No, but if all you so called conservative libertarians help to elect him, what he signs will be the law of the land.

:what:

I can hear him now...

"Stroke of the pen...MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...law of the land...MUWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I love these executive orders!!!"

Huh. Given the choice between a fascist and a communist, I'll take none of the above, thank you very much. Live free or die! I'm voting Libertarian.

Well, it might just be that Bush doesn't really support AWB but can't say that since it would open a bag of worms (antis).

So if Kerry can force him to support AWB, then Bush'd lose gun owner votes - as betrayal. Therefore if he is never in the position to have to sign off on a new ban... it isn't his fault - it's congress's fault.

Now that how my insidious mind works.

Gee, it's that attitude that keeps 3d parties from ever getting anywhere.
You have it right.

What to do about it?

You run in the party that is closest to your beliefs and try to change the
party from the inside.

Hard, yes. Impossible NO.

Example; look at how close the Communist Party and Democrats look and act like one party.:fire:

I think the point here is that Kerry took time off the campaign trail (on "super tuesday" no less) to appear in the senate for the first time in AGES for the express purpose of supporting the AWB. NONE of the other legislations that occred this year was important enough for him to attend. But, this one was just THAT HIGH on his list. Thats alli ever needed to know about him.

So what happened today?

Alright, I'm slow and don't really understand politics at all. What happened today?

I know I should have a better grasp on this kind of stuff, but it usually goes in one ear and out the other and leaves no impression on me.

So hi-caps will be available in Sept? What about Cali? Would they be available here?

But wait....the manufacturer immunity was.....ehh...somebody help me.

I probably should have asked all this stuff the other day, but I'm feeling out of the loop and overwhelmed at this point.

Most Dems and a few RINOs voted to add an amendment to extend the AWB by another 10 years to the manufacturer immunity bill (in addition to a couple other bad amendments). Instead of holding their noses and voting to pass the bill in spite of the bad amendments, most Republicans voted to kill the whole bill. Also, most Democrats voted to kill the bill, because although they liked the amendments, they didn't like the original manufacturer immunity part of the bill. Only 8 Senators voted to pass the bill as amended.

What this means is that because the firearms immunity bill is dead in the Senate, no law for that will be passed this session. Also, it makes it much more likely that the AWB will not be renewed, as this was probably the Democrat's best chance to amend a bill with the AWB renewal. It could still happen, but it's not nearly as likely now, in my opinion.

No matter what the Senate did or does, they would still have to work with the the House in a conferance committee to reconcile the differences between the Senate and House versions of the bill. If the Senate had passed the bill with all the bad amendments, the amendments would have likely been removed, but most people tend to think that it was better not to risk it.

In short, we didn't win today (no manufacturer immunity), but we didn't lose either (defeated the AWB amendment.)

Now the bad news. This is pretty much meaningless for you because of the CA assault weapons ban / magazine capacity ban. State law can be more restrictive than Federal law, and in your case it is.

Let's see... My choice is between the "Sucks" party and the "Also Sucks, But In A Different Way" party.

Pardon me while I go flip a coin...

(If this means you get to call me a "Bush hater," does this mean I get to call you a "Can't reader"?) :scrutiny:

Most importantly Kerry swept todays elections (Doh... surprise there I tell ya)
The Senate did a mental poker game with our rights, upped the ante pretty high and everyone folded their hands eventually, same as it was this time last year regarding lawsuits and the AWB. Demo's and RINO's loaded up the lawsuit bill with onerous amendments, Craig dropped it like a bad habit, they all pretty much agreed with that decision... on to new things.
It was a good measurement of those incumbants we need to target for ouster and those who we think we can depend on and should help in getting re-elected.

Now if we could just talk Kerry into naming Feinstein as his running mate...
Did you hear Gingrich (on Fox News) say that H. Clinton is the second strongest Demo in the country and SHOULD be his choice?

Most Dems and a few RINOs voted to add an amendment.....
What's a RINO?

The AWB is exactly what? Is it synonomous with the hi-cap mag ban?

What this means is that because the firearms immunity bill is dead in the Senate, no law for that will be passed this session.
Why not?

Will manufacturer immunity come up again as a law? But most likely not this session?

So I'm screwed either way because California is full of whackos. Alright, I kinda got it. Thanks

Only because the Senate killed the bill that the ban renewal was attached to.

I would have no problems betting that if that ban hits Bush's desk he will renew it.

But that'd be nothing new. After all, he has yet to veto even a single bill, no matter how onerous.

And he'd be following in Daddy's footsteps. '89 import ban, anyone? Bueller, Bueller?

:fire:

He said he would, and (as the Bush kissers are so fond of pointing out) he's a man of his word. ;)

hat's a RINO?

Republican In Name Only. For example: Olympia Snow, John Warner, John McCain, George W. Bush. Compare with DINO; Democrat in Name Only, i.e. Zell Miller.

The AWB is exactly what? Is it synonomous with the hi-cap mag ban?

The assault weapons ban bans hi-cap magazines and AR-15s with flash supressors or bayonet lugs among other things, but it's federal legislation. Here in Virginia, for example, there is no state law forbidding these items, so when the federal law goes away we will be allowed to buy them. In California (and some other states?) there are state laws (broader than the federal ban even and without sunset) forbidding these things, so even once the federal law goes away, you've still got a state law outlawing hi-caps. Sucks to be you.

It's already been voted down. Nobody's vote will change, so there's no reason to bring it up again this session I assume.

Will manufacturer immunity come up again as a law? But most likely not this session?

Seeing as how the bill was sponsored by a majority of the Senate, that's almost a certainty. But it will have to be brought it up in a more skillful way next time, some way that doesn't subject it to "poison pill" amendments.

Then suicide is your best option, because freedom is not an option when the Democrats are in power

Nor is freedom an option when the Republicans are in power. Maybe we should all just have a big THR suicide party. hmmm.....Koolaid.

You have two dogs in the race. You like guns. Ummm

Utah will not go for Kerry (unless that was a flying pig I saw)

So I can vote for John Browning :neener:

MacViolinist,

Hey, 6 dems voted against the AWB...total. Further, the Democrats have no respect for the "pursuit of property"--which is, frankly, the essence of liberty. The Republicans have their flaws, but the Dems are a total loss.
