On Tuesday, July 18th, the Wisconsin Concealed Carry Movement will be hosting a fund-raising banquet featuring a true legend in the gun community: Massad Ayoob.

Those who heard Massad speak at our 2002 fund-raiser were just blown away. The man is a brilliant speaker--hilariously funny, sharp as a tack, and full of insights and advice. He held our audience spell-bound for an hour, and then had a question-and-answer session.

Well, he’s coming back on July 18th to wow the crowd again.

But there’s more.

We’re also having a delicious dinner, with your choice of three entrees.

And we’re going to have many, many fine firearms for raffle or auction.

This is a fund-raising event for the Wisconsin Concealed Carry Movement (WCCM). All proceeds will go to help pro-gun candidates in the fall elections.

The cost for the dinner is a contribution of $75 per person.

Here are the details:
When: Tuesday, July 18th. Cocktails at 5:30 pm, dinner at 7:00 pm, Massad at 8:00 pm
Where: Klemmers Banquet Center, 10401 West Oklahoma Avenue, Milwaukee

To reserve your seat, please mail a check to: WCCM, 3263 South 45th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53219.

Or, you can reserve your seat online via PayPal by going to http://www.wisconsinconcealedcarry.org and clicking on the “News” button.

This is an opportunity for you to have a fantastic evening and help the cause of gun rights in Wisconsin at the same time. It’s one event you absolutely don’t want to miss!

Authorized and paid for by the Wisconsin Concealed Carry Movement, Richard A. Baker Treasurer

Would love to attend, several states away from me so I'll have to miss the entertainment and meal......but I will make a $75 donation to the cause.

Rembrandt (and others): if you won't be able to make the banquet, but still want to contribute, please use the Contribute link here: http://www.wisconsinconcealedcarry.org/html/contribute.html

I'm worried that there will be many people not able to attend but who will contribute using the Ayoob link, and we'll be paying for empty seats.

Barbara, wherever you are this evening, if you're serious about coming to MKE and helping out, please PM me.

And if anyone else wants to help out by checking in guests or working the gun show tables, please let me know.

Obviously, I'll be sending out volunteer requests to those on our list. But the folks here are more committed.

"If Mas ever hits Texas, I'm there like a bear."

Don't know that he made any public appearances but he did have quite a bit of positive influence on our Concealed Handgun Act when it was first getting started.

Good luck with the dinner!

Thanks, Pax. If you don't mind, I'd like to bump this thread up from time to time. For all of the work involved, we really need 200+ people attending.

Dick, consider running the tape at the get-together, that you have of Suzanna Gratia-Hupp testifying before the Committee. I was there, and she was AWESOME!

In fact, look into getting her as a speaker for the event.

Monkeyleg ~

Of course.

Even if it weren't for such a good cause, that's a reasonable price for a good dinner and a chance to hear Mas speak. That man's a hoot.

Massad, thanks for the suggestion.

I know I can get the tape of Suzzanna at the committee hearings. And her testimony was exactly as you describe.

However--and, given your experience with fund-raising events, please feel free to correct me--I think that the audience would much rather be entertained than hear a horror story. Especially if not everyone has finished eating.

Again, I'm anxious for any advice you can provide based upon your years of experience with events such as these.

My goal is simple and shameless: to extract as much money possible from the wallets from those attending, and use those monies to help defeat Governor Doyle and the pure partisans who put Doyle above the interests of the citizens of this state.

I'm also becoming less shy about how to achieve that goal, given Governor Doyle's tactics. He's really playing down and dirty, and I think many here in WI are believing that we can somehow stay pure and above the fray. It's been years since I was in a street fight, but I remember that the rules then were that there were no rules.

Unless I've completely misread the mood of concealed carry advocates in WI, this event should bring in at least $10,000 net for our political action committee. A very good turnout could bring in $20,000.

Meanwhile, just one hack from Doyle's campaign can sit down with an executive from a road-building company or a casino, have coffee for maybe 45 minutes, and walk out with a personal check for $10,000.

You're doing all you can to help the cause, and at your own time and expense. What's more, as a sworn law enforcement officer, you're not obliged to do any of the above. You can carry.

How many others here can say that they're doing even 1% of what Massad has done?

Massad, if you have any other words of advice, PM me here on THR, or email me at [email protected].

I can't tell you how many people here in this state are grateful for your help.

Yep, I was serious, Dick. Been a bit overwhelmed with soem other things lately, but I'm shooting you an email. As long as I don't have to be cute, I'm there. I'll get working on the quilt soon here, too.

I've seen Gratia-Hupp speak and she was passionate, but never said anything that would be difficult to listen to while eating, in my opinion. I think if its at all possible to get her there, it would be fantastic. She's living proof of why you need to be able to defend yourself.

He's really playing down and dirty, and I think many here in WI are believing that we can somehow stay pure and above the fray.

You have the moral high ground on this. Don't let them make you lose sight of that.

Just noticed the time..I might not be there in time for cocktails. Yahoo says its a 5 hour drive. I'm hoping to take off about noon on Tuesday but will be there as soon as I can.

Barbara: "I'm hoping to take off about noon on Tuesday but will be there as soon as I can."

That would put you in Chicago at about 3:30 to 4pm or so. You'll be sitting in long lines at the toll booths for hours.

If at all possible, leave so that you hit Chicago before 3pm.

Monkeyleg--you could not have found a finer speaker or a better man for this job.:) Won't know for a while if I can attend-wifes health issues, but hope to spend several days with Massad in May here in Indiana.:)

Barbara: "You have the moral high ground on this. Don't let them make you lose sight of that."

In PM's to you, I've described what I have done, and what I was in the process of doing before Governor Doyle so rudely interrupted me with his midnight veto.

I don't want to take this thread too far off-topic, but the reality is that politics is warfare without guns. (At least for Western countries).

Governor Doyle is a vicious and vindictive man, and manipulates, threatens, bribes and extorts members of his own party to toe his line on the CCW issue. It matters not whether those party members will be re-elected or not. It's all about him.

Back in 1998, when the Right to Keep and Bear Arms amendment was on a ballot referendum, Wayne LaPierre and other NRA big names were scheduled to appear at a rally in Milwaukee.

Then-Attorney General Jim Doyle tried to use the power of his office and the power of the State Patrol to shut down that rally. It was only when former Governor Tommy Thompson told Doyle to stand down that Doyle's heavy-handed police state tactics got thwarted.

That's the character of our enemy.

I'm hoping that this event will bring in at least 200 people, and that subsequent events will likewise draw in enough contributors that we can give the maximum $43,128 to Doyle's opponent, Mark Green.

But $43,128 isn't enough when Doyle has set his fund-raising goal at $11 million, and is using and abusing every bit of his power as governor to manipulate the media and lie to the public.

So far, Doyle has pretty much kept the gloves on. That will change soon.

But it would be a huge mistake for us to play Neville Chamberlain to Doyle's Hitler.

We're going to have to get involved in a very dirty campaign.

For the time being, though, folks can enjoy Massad Ayoob's speech, a good dinner, and get some good deals on guns. Better we have a good time before the dirty work begins.

And as was discussed in those emails, don't become what you hate. You have to stay as squeaky clean and ethical as you can, not just because its the right thing to do, but because long term, if you don't, you cause more harm to the cause.

I've done Chicago rush hour and would prefer not to, but don't think I can leave any earlier..we'll see as the time comes. Maybe I'll look into taking the ferry. How close would that put me to you?

PM's checked, SM. Thanks. I'll get the mailing info to you.

Barbara, I'm told the ferry is quite expensive. Something like $130. That's just what one person told me, though.

Hey, Massad. We were talking about you on the radio yesterday. <grin>

Time for you to be a guest, again. Plus, we need to talk about this new TV project.

Drop me a note. [email protected]

Best,

Tom

Ouch. And that's just for the car. No bigigie, I'll just drive.

I can't take only 1/2 day, so I'll be able to leave earlier anyway.
