Willie, I can understand your sentiment, but I am not a collector. I would not 'undo' the bubba-ization (to coin a word) even if I could. That Mauser, in it's present configuration, means much more to me than it ever would have if left in the original form.
I have no doubt at all that what you say is true, and since you've used it well, I applaud your work. It's a well done rifle and is worthy of it's pedigree.
"BTW, just to show that I do appreciate collectors, I bought a Chilean 1935 cavalry carbine about the same time I bought the scout"
One of the SARCO imports. I was one of the gun-monkeys in the back of SARCO at that time, grading these for sale as we unpacked *thousands* of them. The good ones were graded, and the beaters were set aside. I then later had the job of reducing the beaters to actions and parts. Unbarreled about 250 of them for the actions, which as you know had the commercial "Mauser Banner" emblem on the action. They made beautiful sporting rifle actions.
Thanks for the memory jogger, and thanks for not taking a good one and making a sporter out of it.
Willie
