One step at a time...

Cajun, here's what I'd suggest:

Start with the Howa 1500 already chambered in the cartridge you want.

Add the Ashley Scout Scope mount, Burris Scout Scope, Leupold QR rings, a Safari Ching Sling, and a butt cuff ammo carrier.

Then play with the rifle awhile to see if the forward mounted scope works for you. That is the most distinctive part of the setup (with the speed sling second most distinctive).

Once you're convinced that this is the setup for you, then you can proceed with the bells and whistles (backup iron sights, synthetic stock to reduce weight, shortening the stock and rounding the heel of the recoil pad, butt cuff ammo carrier, glass bedding, etc.)

Slingster,
This project will take a while( more than a year) I already have a Marlin Guide gun in 45-70 and a custom 1917 enfield in .338-06 with the same setup. I know it works for me. I've read two of Col Coopers books and am a fan. The list of actions are options. Say, If I find a youth rifle, I'll try it out, then add the other parts together one by one.
The Howa is only a barrled action so I'd need some sort of sights and a stock before I could start, which would be 3/4 of the package.
As for the leather butt cuff, Where do you get one. The one I have is from gunsite but is a galco.
Thanks for the reply
