Hello,

I am restoring a M38 Turkish Mauser. Does anyone know for sure if the bolt was issued in the white or blued? My gun is so well used it is hard to tell. It almost looks like the bolt body is in the white and the bolt handle was blued, but the discoloring on the bolt handle could be rust or contact with the human hand and the sweat and stuff that comes with that.

Thanks
ZM

I think that they came in the white. I got mine a while ago & it was in fairly good shape & I'm fairly sure that it was white. If I get a chance before someone else chimes in I'll see what I can dig up on this.

I would say in the white also, but you never know, the guns were rebuilt, reassembled so many times that at one time they might have had some blued bolts. My 98/22s which are very similar to turks and are in much better condition are in the white.

What I really want to know is what is the proper fastener for the rear barrel band: a pin, a screw, a nail, a bent screw, a screw with its threads ground off to look like a pin, or bailing wire? :)

Yes... to all of the above.... at least, MOST of the time.

the only blued bolt guns i've ever seen were either original german, captured german hardware or cezch mausers, i think possibly the swede mausers were blued but can't remember, but every turk i've seen was in the white.

Survey says.....In the white. Guess I'll start polishing the bolt.

Might need to wait a day or two. Went shooting yesterday. I have six C&R rifles, two handguns and a shotgun to clean.

Thanks

Turk bolts are in the white.....however, the cocking piece/safety and shroud on mine are blued. could have been put-togethers....but, on two of them?
