I believe that the front of the sight ladder has 2 'ears' that fit into recesses in the base. Press the front of the light ladder DOWN HARD and then it should slide out toward the rear of the rifle. Give it a try and let us know.
critter is correct. You have to push down hard to disengage the sight before sliding it backwards. I'm a pretty big guy and its a real thumb-buster to get it out.
If you have too much difficulty, spray some Break-Free or similar oil in the sight housing to loosen up any dried cosmo that may be hiding in there and making things harder.
Scout site directions i'd seen was to use a C-Clamp with some rubber pads on it so you didn't marr the bluing. Tighten until you can get the leaf down but not tighter then that.
