Maverick 88 experience?

I have two of the Mossberg 88 Mavericks in 12 gauge. My first was a 28" modified with screw in choke. The barrel is vented rib and very nice quality. I shot trap with the gun and did pretty well on a hot, miserably humid day.

I bought a pair of choke tubes (Imp Cyl and Full) at Academy for $20! Midway ran a sale on an 18" cylinder bore spare barrel for $78 so I snagged that, too. Barrels for the Mossberg 500, fit the 88 perfectly!

My second 88 Maverick is an 18" cylinder bore plain barrel. I have it hanging in my hallway loaded with 00 buck short magnums.

Both guns are exceptional values and are made in Eagle Pass, Texas.

I am a lifelong fan of the Remington 1100 and 870 shotguns and I took to the Maverick without a single reservation. The Maverick receiver is aluminum as compared to the solid steel receiver of the 870 so the sound is different as you work the action. I like the safety location on the Maverick as it is similar to the Remington shotguns.

The Mossberg Maverick 88 gets two "thumbs up" from me!

I have had a Maverick 88 for quite a few years now and have no complaints as to its reliability and versatility. Added a Mossberg stock and vent rib Accu-choke barrel to it awhile back (originally came with an 18" barrel and pistol grip), and it's been running smooth ever since.

Mine goes bang every time, no issues at all. Fit and finish are not perfect but what I expected. Great value!

Go for it. I have 20 & 12 bird guns. SIL has 2 870s. Mine don't jam on WW ammo. For half the $$. I have a bad shoulder and still manage 100 rnds of either with no problem, throwing my own clays. On a good day I hit ~90%. Not bad for an old guy and an inexpensive gun.
