Maverick 88 parts

Hey everyone, I have a Mossberg Maverick 88 that i would like to turn into a home defense shotgun. I know that some of the Mossberg 500 parts dont fit on the 88s, like the forend, and was hoping that someone could post some links to where i can get parts for my shotgun. I have seen Maverick 88s that have 8 shot magazine tubes with 18 1/2" (or 20"?)barrels...mine has a 5 shot tube and would like to get an 8 shot tube. Does anyone know where i can acquire one of these? Also, if I am able to get an 8 shot tube, I will also need an 18 1/2"(20"?) barrel with the part that screws onto the magazine tube farther forward than one thats meant for a 5 shot tube. In easier to understand words, I will need an 8 shot compatable 18 1/2"(20"?) barrel rather than a 5 shot capable one. I also would like one of those ribbed forarms rather than the smooth longer one thats on mine right now.

Any help is appreciated. if you have a link to one of these 3 things im looking for but arent sure if its exactly what i am looking for, post it anyways and i'll check it out!

I believe that the 500 8 shot mag tube, 500 20" barrel and 500 forend tube/forend "grip" will all fit directly onto the Maverick, but to be honest, by the time you swap out all the parts, you could probably have had an entire 8 shot 500 for cheaper.

that had crossed my mind, that i could probably have bought a whole new shotgun by then. the problem is, its also my hunting shotgun. i have a 24" slug barrel that is compatable with the 5 shot mag tube so it would be nice to have both magazine tubes for hunting/home defense. i dont mind not having the shotgun for HD during hunting season as i have other guns that i could use for HD. i would just like a HD "style" shotgun. also, ive sandblasted all of the parts in my maverick and coated them with an industrial black dry lubricant coating that i am absolutely in love with and would have to do it all over again if i bought a whole new shotgun.
if all of those parts will fit my maverick, do you know where i could get them? links to websites with these parts would be great

Looks like you might be able to get the barrel and mag tube for under $200.

Of course, thats looking for Mossberg parts. You can also select Maverick and see if they have what you're looking for there.

thank you sam1911. there are two choices for magazine tubes. one says old style and the other one doesnt. does anyone know what the difference between the old style and new style are?

The older style magazine has a ring and short spring to put tension on the action tube when the tube is forward. It makes the forend more stable, but it also means you have to remove the magazine to fully strip the shotgun.

so the either tube will work? i believe i will go with the newer style as that seems to be the style that i currently have, granted its 5 shot and not 8 shot.

also, i have heard from several places that mossberg 500 forends do not work on maverick 88s...is this true? if so, why do they not work on the 88s and is there anyway to make them work? this is the forend i would like to have but dont know if it will work... http://www.lg-outdoors.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SS_46433

also, will i need a different magazine spring for the 8 shot tube or can i use the one from my 5 shot tube?

It really isn't going to be cost effective to transform your gun. Either get an 18" barrel that will fit your gun for about $75.

If you really want a 7 shot magazine and 20" barrel, just buy the gun. I just ordered one from Bud's gunshop a few weeks ago for $199 delivered. Right now it shows out of stock, but they get shipments regularly.

i suppose you guys are right. i'll just buy the 18 1/2" barrel that will fit the current magazine tube. that way i wont have to switch tubes for hunting. i do need to buy a new magazine tube though as mine is dented a bit at the end from the first time i tried to get the tube off for cleaning...put it in a vice and put more pressure on it than i realized...it still works fine but isnt as attractive as a brand new one :banghead: .thatll be a future purchase as it isnt a necessity, seeing as how the one i have still works. i would still like the other forarm though...do the mossberg 500 forarms fit the maverick 88?
