So I had a friend recently leave the country and I bought a stack of reloading equipment from him for a.......well a stolen price. In the stuff I bought I found a pock 38 spl revolver I thought oh boy what a treat I rolled out the cylinder and sat a single case in the chamber it had a blown out primer and was really flat. Oh no I thought I need to look the gun over really well as the case was stuck in the chamber. After I got the hammer and punch I noticed the case was a 38 super+p....worse news so far after looking the gun over I found the top strap to be split.......bummer what moron dhot the wrong ammo in this? Reminds me of the time a guy at a public range was cussin up a storm because the box of 38-40 ammo didnt work in his 40 glock or his smith j frame....lol!, any way I contacted my friend he said it was a friends gun given to him as it was a blown up gun and useless. So my plan ......hold on until the next gun buy back trade it in line for a working gun and be on my way or atleast get my 25$ wally world card for it.

I think you might have an issue. More knowledgeable people will chime in.

Some places give out cards with larger dollar amounts. That is what Im waiting for. When they do the $100 or $200 Wal Mart card or the straight Visa card in those amounts I may have to give up the RG revolver and put the money towards a better, newer gun.

Maybe not, the RG was my first handgun.

In my area the gun buy backs have always been no questions asked no transfer info or proof of ownership needed.

The guns are inspected and must be operational before they give you a gift card. They have had several of the buy back programs here and all the workers were gun nuts. We don't have gun buy backs anymore, most of the BG's and gang members have fairly new weapons and would not stoop so low as to carry a POS.

So far in all 7 cities in the area they have taken non functional guns I dont see any reason to thing the next will be diffrent. Should be another soon but I will check with my pd connections to be sure. BTW the gun still functions as in pull the trigger and the hammer mover but ite still got a broke frame.

I'm still pretty new to shooting but have a very similar experience.

I could not find any .38 special ammo, but, saw a load of .38 super. I emailed S&W, earlier this year, asking if .38 super was an acceptable substitute. The email said YES it was.

I wish I would have saved that email.

What? Let me ask just to be sure, S&W said 38 super was ok to shoot in 38 SPL? Sounds all and completely wrong to me.

You mean like this buy back, where Orlando police gave a guy his gift certificate in exchange for an empty transport tube because they THOUGHT it was a missile launcher?

I was given a Burgo .22lr revolver this weekend. I had never heard of that make, so i searched THR for info. The adjective "POS" was what came up most often lol.

So... my plan for this newly acquired firearm is a good buy-back program. If I get cash or a Walmart card, I'll buy more .22lr ammo to shoot in my *real* 22s.

That tube is awesome. I'm thinking the next time I hear about a buy back I'm going to buy a whole bunch of PVC pipe and put together 10 or 20 potato guns to turn in:evil:
