Ok, maybe just for me, but ...

Here goes.

So, I have a birthday coming up in August.

My wife would like to buy "things" related to reloading for me- but wants it to be a surprise- not like, to ask me what I want, and to buy it.

She's deathly afraid she'll buy the wrong thing.

So, I told her in passing that I'm sure my THR fellas would be happy to help her out- but she insisted she didn't know who they were.

As if all of those mailing labels didn't leave a mark.... Anyway.

So, if you feel like it, make a post in here so she can PM ya and all of you can collectively discuss what I'm getting for my birthday :D

If thats not the coolest thread ever...........

Awesome idea question though blarby I don't really know you so what do you have and what are you looking for I know your looking for a sizing die for your newly acquired 357 so any ideas

Probably help if you'd drop some hints! Nobody knows what you do or don't have, let alone need, want, or DON'T want. Are you an established reloader? Or not one at all? Calibers?

This is like saying "hey, my wife wants to buy me fishing gear for my birthday, tell her what to get me!"

Uhhhh.....

What I do is, I make a wish list in Midway and email it to her. Has been working for the past 16 years.

A little clarification :

#1, its supposed to be a real surprise- the listing stuff won't do.

#2 I'm past dropping hints

and lastly

#3, last time I'm gonna look in here, dangint ! Now I know she has the link to the thread.

Ya'll have fun now, ya heear ?

Wow, still sounds like a tough mission! I hope his wife has a good idea of what holes need to be filled. I know MY wife would be clueless and lost. She says I "have enough bullets to blow up the world" anyway.

Well sadly I don't like surprises. I'd rather someone knows exactly what I need & get that. If they want it to be a surprise then it should be something consumable that they know I'll use. 5k primers, powder, bullets, & such should be easy to figure out by looking at the stock that is already there. The new guns need feed but that problem may be that he is still trying to figure out what he likes in them where the old stand by should already have a preferred load. My real suggestion is to listen to what he wants & get that tho.

I know he is proud of his wife showing interest in reloading so a his & hers matching something would really make him proud.

Ehh? Hmm..... I'm not sure I took that right or maybe just a bad way of putting it.

ETA: I see you changed it a little after I started typing but I can't delete now.

I really have most of the stuff I need, but there is some cool stuff I want. I suspect you may be the same way: there are luxuries that you might not splurge on yourself. Warning, Ms. Blarby, some of these aren't cheap. No links provided, just Google them.

So here goes:

PACT digital powder scale and dispenser

Case trimmers from World's Finest Trimmer, Possum Hollow or (gasp) Giraud

Dillon Square Deal B in your favorite handgun caliber

100 pounds of high tin/antimony bullet alloy from Rorometals (if you cast)

Bullet mold and electric lead melting furnace (if you don't cast but want to start)

A second lubrisizer, either a Lyman 4500 or RCBS lube-a-matic 2.

My wife bought me my first 1050.

Leave the Blue Press laying around...

To: Blarby's Wife:

Post a picture of what he has please...:)
That way we can help with what he might like or need!;)

I am sure he doesn't need or want a Gold plated bullet puller, but if you get him one...well serves him right for not letting us know what he already has!:D

Thanks in advance, Wreck

One of the best presents to give a reloader is a device that uses the finished product. Maybe in a caliber that he doesn't already have. If momma would shoot us a pic of the reloading room, especially the die section we could be of more help.

<-- Blarby's Wife

I will try to get a pic of his room when I'm home.

Hopefully he will actually stay true to his word and keep outta this post for the rest of the time.

One thing I know he's very interested in, since he doesn't have one yet, is some sort of reloader for his 410. He has a handloader, but it's a pain in the ass, and he hates using it. And it doesn't size, or something. (I'm not a reloader, most of this stuff just goes in one ear and out the other, and my eyes start to glaze over. I love to shoot, though, so I'm more than happy to put up with his growing hobby.) I'd like to keep it to $350-400, budgetwise.

I bet he'd enjoy some large pistol primers, small pistol magnum primers, "magnum" handgun powders, and jacketed bullets in .357" and .458" diameter. I seem to recall a .458socom AR upper and .357 magnum revolver are his newest "toys."

I don't know of a new press that you can get for .410 old ones can sometimes be found on eBay but are way over priced. One of us could probably make you a die to resize with.

cm250c,

I see that he just got a Colt Trooper MK III in 357. If you are not limited to just reloading stuff you could get him a fancy leather holster for the new pistol.

This is one from simply rugged, its the sourdough pancake with celtic knot and double ammo pouch with border stamping, will run about 210 and up to 6 weeks.http://shop.simplyrugged.com/ecommerce/Holsters.cfm?cat_id=669

Or this one is from mernickle http://www.mernickleholsters.com it is the field carry FC3 model with stingray inlay and I had them add the strap. They have alot of other holsters too all very nice. About 6 weeks as well.

Sweet thread.....powder, primers and bullets are always good, but you have to find something he's been wanting for awhile though.....hmmmm, a picture of what he's got would definitely help.

.22lr ammo is something he'd be surprised about. I think we all would. Lol.

Maybe so good quality brass. I think he said y'all got a 357...some good Starline brass to reload with for it would be nice. Or some high quality rifle brass, something that he may never buy on his own (my wife does that for me all time since I rarely buy for myself)

Maybe a new manual or ooooohhhh get him the Quickload software. It runs around $150 and everyone seems to love it for checking loads.

I'm pretty sure he already has reloading stuff for the .357 - I think he's had that before he had the gun. I assume he'll cast for his .357 as well, and I think he may have a mold for that already. As for a holster, he got one with the gun.

Powders and other components, kinda meh on the b'day gift front (besides, within reason, I already let him keep that stuff in supply, cuz I shoot too). He got starline brass for his .458 just recently (at least ordered it, dunno if it's arrived yet), and got a sweet 4-bullet mold for it as well (that was part of his b'day present, way early).

The thing I've heard him complain about the most is the .410. He's barely shot it, though he likes too, because handloading is a pain. That's kinda why I figured on that. But I know pretty much zero about reloading, and all I've heard him mention was mec.

I was sort of looking at the MEC 600 Jr. Mark 5 reloader, cuz it fit my price range (well, actually well below it) and appears to be available from a few different vendors.

Just dunno how good it is. Or if there is something better within budget. Possibly something that could swap out dies to also do 12 gauge, since we also shoot that. He's currently got the lee loader for 12 gauge, I think that's what it's called.

But mainly, I was looking for a good .410 reloader.

Or slightly out of budget:
MEC 650N + their super-sizer...although it appears to be "special order" or backorder from vendors I could find

or MEC sizemaster....but it doesn't put the primers in for .410...so that'd have to be done by hand I assume? Sounds kind of annoying.

This is tough but I have few things that I can think of, of course not personally knowing Mr. Blarby. Reloading is very hard because we reloaders can a finicky bunch concerning our preferences and needs! I have included a few non-reloading ideas below as well to help round it out some. Please disregard if they don't meet your criteria!

Personally, the thing that I love but had a hard time spending on were my Little Crow WFT trimmers. They are awesome, but I already had a trimmer that handled everything. I now have three for my high volume calibers, which for me are .223, .308, .30-06. I am not sure of his interests and what calibers he shoots, or if he shoots large volumes of ammo, but if he spends a lot of time trimming cases, these could be good. Consider a corded drill (one you plug into the wall outlet) or a drill press mandatory.

Price is typically ~$70 per unit from the usual suspects. Surely you've seen some of their boxes laying around the doorstep! (Midway, Brownell's, etc.)

http://www.littlecrowgunworks.com/wft.html

I traded him some .30 Carbine brass a while back. Maybe some components for that caliber if he needs them? (Bullets, powder, more brass)

Does he have a progressive reloading press? It is one that makes ammo in a sequence resulting in completed ammo every time the handle is cycled, if you don't already know that. If he does, maybe a case feeder for it?

Shooting gear is another thing I don't like to splurge on. For example, high quality shooting bags with the heavy sand from Sinclair are nice!

http://www.sinclairintl.com/shootin...sories/heavy-bag-sand-w-funnel-prod45122.aspx

Maybe a spotting scope? I have this one and for the price it is great. It will fog up in really bad weather, and it's big and a little heavy. But I frequently have people ask to use it to find holes in targets that theirs can;t make out.

Ooops, just saw the posts you made while I was writing mine. I see you're zeroing in on .410 loading. I know nothing about that, sorry!
