I know a few here are playing with this new available powder trying to find good combinations. I shared this info in my 158 SWC thread but figured it might be seen by more here. This is today MBC 240 Keith Bullet Coated, 5.2 Grains Win244, Remington .44 Special Brass and CCI LPP. Group is 45 Feet (15 yards) off hand and double action. Gun was a S&W 629 3” Talo Deluxe. No velocity data that will have to wait till the Spring. The shoot and see stickers are 3” wide. 10 shot group. This load has a ton of potential. Clean, smoke free and moderate recoil. No signs of pressure what so ever. I only made up 20 as a test batch but they will now go into full production. Sights will be adjusted next trip.

Nice! Was that using Special or Magnum brass?

My bad, .44 Special
Oooohhh…Aaaahhhh! :D
I’m a-thunkin’… 6” Taurus .44Spl. Hmmmm…

I actually did try a similar load using Speer swaged 240gr and it was pretty okay but W231 was better. I might have to try again with the higher charge and coated bullets.

I shot the same combo with 5.0 grains last week. Groups were 5” or better. These almost half that for 2/10th a grain. Always a sweet spot. Cleaner too. That means the pressure is just right for the brass. According to the data this load is 13,200 PSI. Still well within the 15,500 limit. Its advertised velocity is 870 from a 6” barrel. I doubt that part. My guess would be 750 to 800 on the high end. No way of testing that theory at the moment.

Makes sense. I stopped at 5.0gr because I didn’t want to get close to maximum for my old Taurus revolvers. Like you I got unimpressive but not entirely terrible groups. I need to check and see if I have any coated .432” LSWC on hand. If not I will get some.
