I finally got around to getting an Aimpoint for my AR15. It came in a package deal from Palmetto State Armory along with a Magpul MBUS rear sight. I've been running a Larue fixed BUIS, but I wondered if I'd like the cleaner sight picture that I'd get with a folding rear sight. Since the MBUS was handy, I popped it on my rifle, and I liked what I saw (or didn't, as the case may be). Since I'm clearly liking the folding rear sight, now I have to wonder about the durability of the MBUS. Would I do better with a Troy sight? Bear in mind that this is for a rifle for which I've taken care NOT to cut corners. Most of it is LMT, BCM, Daniel Defense, etc. It's not that cost doesn't matter at all, but we're really only talking about $50 difference between the Troy and MBUS. I'll make more than that just selling the Larue BUIS that will be replaced by whatever folding sight I choose. So, putting aside the cost difference, which is the better folding rear sight?

I put this Troy Folding Battle Sight on my BCM upper, and love it. It fits great, sits square, is easy to flip up without being too easy, and locks upright. Simply a great sight. Not cheap, but very, very, good. I tried this MI sight, but wasn't happy with it. It is good, but the Troy is great, IMHO of course.

I own both Troy and Magpul folding sights. The Magpuls are there for backup on my 300 Blackout that wears an Aimpoint. The Troys are on my 308 where they are primary sights, they only get folded if I put a long range scope on it.

If cost is not a factor and you want the best, buy the Troy's, they are tough and work great. The Magpul's are good but I wouldn't ever say they were equal to Troy. The dual aperture is a little annoying on the Magpul sets IMO.

There is nothing wrong with the MBUS for its task, to be a backup. It is light, durable, and works well. Used a set the other day shooting a friend's .458 when we realized his dot was off. Deployed the backups and made easy hits with the thumper.

I have the same one. Great BUIS.

I also went with the magpul BUIS on a dedicated CMMG 22 upper. I greatly prefer the Troy. The magpul does what it is supposed to do, hasn't broken and is quick to deploy. I wouldn't say I've abused the rifle, but I've ran it had and I've yet to break the magpul sight. Both mount low and sleek and don't get in the way of even a stock charging handle. I still prefer the Troy, though. It's just nicer. The aperture is much easier to flip on the Troy, also.

been runnin magpul since they've been on the market. Still holds a zero even after gettin beat up at our hunting camp in the Louisiana swamps when I carry it for protection against feral hogs. Primary sight is an aimpoint

I love the Troy Folding Battlesights (front & rear) on my carbine build. It was my first AR build, and I went with the Troys, as I wanted to use them as primary sights for a while before I added a red dot (eventually added an Aimpoint PRO).

For pure the pure BUIS role, I'm sure the MBUS sights are just fine, but I've never regretted getting the Troys.
