Hi Ed45 , I have a Mech Tech unit for a Kimber .45.The unit works very well but you need a scope to shoot ,mine was a $99.00 from Bi-Mart they helped put it on. The unit is sturdy I just add my 1911 bottom frame load 10 round mag rack the bolt and fire away, lots of fun shooting only down side is a humming sound from the rear of the barrel after each shot a little strange but dosen't affect the shooting.
Easy way to get a .45 rifle.
I have one for a 1911. It is very fun and has been very reliable and accurate. I did have some problems getting the frame attached to the carbine upper and then removed, a rubber mallet solved that problem, now I just have a spare 1911 frame mounted on it semi-permanently.
A buddy of mine has one, he was complaining also about needing to scope it. He found a cheap AR carry handle and I made him a front sight at work. I haven't had a chance to talk to him about it lately, I'll try to get some pictures.
He's happy with it, only other thing would be the "boing" when it shoots, can't tell if it's the recoil spring or stock tho. It's a fun little unit.
I don't see any reason it wouldn't work with a 1911 with the ambi-safety. I've never tried it though. I'll see if I can dig it out this weekend and try putting a 1911 with the ambi-safety fame on it if you'd like.
