Howdy:

Any of y'all have experience with this critter? Looking for any nasty surprises, in particular.

Mesa Tactical Crosshair Recoil Buffer
http://mesatactical.com/products/enidine-shot-stock-hydraulic-buffer-mil-spec/
he Crosshair Hydraulic Recoil Buffer takes the place of the receiver extension tube...Recoil-buffered versions are available for both LEO® and High-tube® telescoping stock systems, or the recoil buffer can be purchased separately. The recoil buffer accepts mil-spec dimensioned buttstocks...

The Crosshair buffer tube reduces felt recoil by up to 70% while improving accuracy. This advance in performance is achieved by increasing the recoil event impulse time through the use of adaptive hydraulic technology. Decreased felt recoil allows for follow up shots to be aimed quickly and precisely.

I have shot 12ga with the Knoxx Spec Ops stock and gotten "recoil face" as the sucker essentially punches you in the cheek unless you deny yourself a good cheek weld. So, not so fond of that or as a recoil-taming bit of kit for my wife. Still have, use, & like the Knoxx Cop Stock folder on a Rem 870, but it is WAY too long for my wife & kiddos. Heck, I am 6' tall and it is almost too long (LOP) for me.

Quite interested in this, as we have some hunting opportunities that do not allow the use of a rifle, but allow smooth bore or rifled bbl shotguns. Need to build something my 5' nothing < 100lb wife (and kids) can shoot that won't give them a whooping and can be made to fit. Mesa produces these (and AR-15 collapsible stock adapters) for several models of shotguns, both 12ga and 20ga.

I already have a 12ga Rem 870, so can experiment.
* 870 12ga full power slugs
* 870 12ga reduced power slugs

If those are still too much recoil, I can buy a Rem 870 in 20ga and the proper adapter from Mesa. Unless there is some nasty surprise (like the Knoxx "recoil face") we ought to get something to work.

Secondary use would be as a HD shotgun my wife could use.

Best thing on the Market. Add a Limbsaver M4 pad to it and the only way to reduce felt recoil more is to let someone else shoot the gun.

That Buffer is quasi Endine Buffer as they stopped civilian sales but licensed Crosshair to make it. So, same thing but different name.

I have installed hundreds of these and use them on my own guns.

Just to add. The recoil reduction is the selling point but not the best benefit for a fighting shotgun. The best benefit is the fact that because the weapon moves straight back into the buffer, muzzle flip is greatly reduced so you get faster follow up shots. Now that is important on a fighting gun.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Given that Mesa makes that same part work for 12ga & 20ga, not sure I can go wrong.
