Is it just me or would anyone else like a metal-frame 10mm featuring slide cut for a red dot optic? I think this is a gap that a manufacturer could easily fill and make a profit, especially if they could do it for sub-$1k.

I think an SAO would be sublime, but I’d settle for DA/SA.

As it stands, you can get a Glock 40 or a Springfield XDM, which are both 10mm and have slide cuts, but they feature polymer frames. Other manufacturers make metal-frame 10mm such as the EAA Witness line, SIG P220, and various 1911s. However, I am not aware of any metal-frame 10mm guns that come from the factory with an optic-ready slide. I have no doubt that someone will comment about some obscure company that makes a custom overpriced gun that fits my description, but I am looking for something from the mainstream manufacturers and at a reasonable price.

Yeah, I'd like a 2022 Corvette for $30,000.

A metal framed gun is probably going to cost $1,000 before you do anything to it. You want it in 10mm, that's going to cost more. You want an optic on it, that's going to cost more.

I think you may be looking for metal framed guns through your polymer framed viewpoint.

None that I know of at that price point. I suspect Rock Island/Armscor will be one of the first to bring a a budget optics ready 10mm 1911 to market. But that remains to be seen. You either have to go polymer framed or increase your budget. My closest consideration is the XDM OSP in 10mm.

Some EAA Witness frames are drilled and tapped for a "around the slide" optic mount.
There are now reflex mounts that attach to the slide's rear sight V. Here is a annoying video for the Loopy one.

That statement is not at all accurate as there are numerous metal-framed guns below $1k, many of which are in stock and well below and many of which already come in 10mm for under $1k. Below is a small sampling:

Beretta 92x RDO 9mm: $699

Rock Island 1911 in 10mm: $409.99

My point is that a company can produce a metal framed optics-ready 10mm pistol for under $1k. Heck, if you took the Rock River 1911 that I listed above, you have nearly $600 available for adding an optics cut before you hit $1k. The Springfield Ronin and the Kimber leave about $150 before hitting $1k. Most custom shops charge $300-350 to add a cut to your 1911 and part of the consideration and cause for the price is that not all 1911s are equal so they may have to adjust and spend time because one person’s slide may be longer, fatter, etc depending on what 1911 they have. If mass-produced, a company can standardize and add an optics cut to one of their existing metal-framed 1911 lines and not result in a cost addition of $300-350 over the non-optics cut version. In fact, we see most manufacturers assigning only a $50-100 higher MSRP for an optics cut variant.

The Beretta 92 will never be available in 10mm.

Kimber does offer a couple of 10mm pistols with an RDO, see my links above. They aren't selling them for a $1,000.

I agree that the likelihood of Beretta making a 10mm 92 variant is remote. The same holds true with Hi Power clones such as the SA-35. I included them to show that metal guns do not start at $1k.

I understand that Kimber produced optics-ready 10mm 1911s. However, they are not over $1K solely because of the optics cut and 10mm chambering. Kimber’s optics-ready 10mm variants (Super Jagare and KHX Custom) already have “premium” features such as checkering on the front grip, semi-custom slide serrations, lightening cuts, etc.

It all boils down to what people want to pay for. For me personally and I suspect others, the $1k threshold is an arbitrary line in the sand. I’ve bought pistols over $1k, but it requires more effort to convince myself to buy when a pistol is over $1k. I argue that companies such as Kimber could eliminate some premium features with and produce 10mm guns optics-ready guns for under $1K.

Aside from the physical impossibility of putting a 10mm in a Beretta 92 or Browning Hi-Power...

Hey, I'm rooting for you. I hope you find a metal framed, 10mm, with an optic cut, for under $1,000, but there are reasons why you don't see them.

As mentioned up-thread, your best bets will be waiting on either RIA or EAA/Tanfoglio to come through for you, or perhaps some Turkish company. That's the only way you're going to end up under $1,000 for what you want.
