Mexican Police now have access to YOUR gun info

Speaking during his official visit to Mexico, Mr Mukasey said the e-Trace database would be installed at US consulates across Mexico to help local police track gun dealers back in the US.

Maybe I'm wrong but this sure sounds like the system is not available to any Mexican cop below the border. More like "we have these guns, can you see if they are in your data base, Mr. Consulate guy". I still don't like the idea of this info available at any of the consulates even if the system is still under the control of an ATF agent.

Obviously what this means is that when Mexico invades the USA, they will go to the homes of known gun owners and confiscate the guns. Sadly, they will fall into the same pit naivete as the US government because of owners of non-documented gun sales, stolen guns, and illegal guns.

I've never supplied my SSN to WI DMV, nor is it associated with it by my employer................And Mexico has already invaded the USA haven't they..........Further, it doesn't have to be available to just any Mexican cop to become highly detrimental to the citizens of the USA, just the wrong one!

if "they want to find you" they can.

Bingo. If they have your driver's license number, your SS# is a mere click of the mouse away

"They" refering to the federal government, yes, "they" refering to Mexican Police (who will soon pass the info to document forgers) until this law, no they couldn't

And no, the Mexican Police do NOT have my drivers licence number so my SSN is NOT a click away.

Don't worry, you can trust our Mexican Police friends with your full name and Social Security information.

What could happen?

WE are a Global Society.
WE do not have the privacy we once did.

This pertains to guns, and everything else.

Granted my SSN has printed on it "Not For Identification Purposes" - My SSN was still used on Taxes,Medical Records , and other documents before Computers and Internet.
Before SSN was being used for Student ID, Employee ID, Insurance ID , Health Coverage, ....etc.

WE did not get a SSN until time to start work, now newborns are getting SSN in short order.

It is not that big of a deal for Mexico, UK, or any other Country to know about you.
You go on vacation, get sick, I assure you records can be found informing medical personal of prior medical attentions.

Utility Companies have some of the best databases of persons and who they are, where they lived, change of name due to getting married, or divorced and taking maiden name back.

Computers do things faster, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out any one in the World can cross reference you in regard to anything.

Nightie Night and don't let the bed bugs bite...

Obviously what this means is that when Mexico invades the USA

Time to call Scott Mitchell, I'm a Ghost Recon fan, this is somewhat plausible.

TFHC aside (the calls are starting) if Mexico invaded us, they would get a royal beating by the military, and the Texas and Arizona gun owners would be lighting them up to.

Hm. Well, I suffered an attempted identity theft not too long ago, so I've got permanent fraud watches on my credit accounts. Since the possibility of sale of this information for purposes of identity theft seems at least relatively probable, it was timely enough.

:uhoh: What do you call 20,000,000 illegal aliens traversing there way across your country with maps provided by the Mexican government? What do you call it when 20,000,000 illegal aliens have taken up residence in your country in violation of your local, state, and federal laws? What do you call it when 20,000,000 illegal aliens march in your streets and protest you, and your laws?:what: What do you call all that in MI..............

Given that Mexican law prevents ownership of arms of military caliber, which pretty much prevents any Mexican citizen from having the means to resist a corrupt government or its adjuncy gangs......why in the hell would we want to prevent them from having the means to resist/upset/overturn such a travesty of government ? We probably ought to be sending every illegal we round up south with a cheap gun and lots of ammo.... >MW

OK, for those who say the Social Security number is absolutely necessary to purchase a firearm... what about those citizens who don't have a Social Security account? Some citizens were exempted on religious grounds in 1965.

In 1935, a bill known as "The Social Security Act" passed Congress. Included in this act was "Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance," provided for those in industry and commerce, and extended to include farm operators in 1955. What was once a benefit had now become a law. The tax was to be reported at the rate of 3% of income up to an established limit.

While the Amish have no objection "paying unto Caesar what is Caesar’s," they do have problems with commercial insurance. In a sense, insurance was seen as not trusting in God. Insurance plans were a worldly operation. Plus, the Amish view of separation of church and state normally meant not accepting money from government programs, especially something viewed as welfare.

It came to pass that in 1965, the Medicare bill was passed by Congress. Tucked into the 138 page bill was a clause exempting the Old Order Amish, and any other religious sect who conscientiously objected to insurance, from paying Social Security payments, providing that sect had been in existence since December 31, 1950.

The Amish, by the way, have no objections to owning firearms for hunting, pest control, or animal slaughter. They are strict pacifists, however, and would be very unlikely to view them as weapons, even for self defense use. I'm sure the sight on an Amish man in a gun store is not a foreign one in some areas.

You have to have s screw loose to put your SSN on a 4473. It don't make it any faster for NICS approval.
*ahem* Not to be rude, but in some cases, you're wrong. I'm one of those counter monkeys in a FFL. For people who have a history of delays (NOT DENIES), the SSN is usually the thing that separates them from whomever it is with similar information that is on the ATF's "black list." Ususally, I encourage those people to acquire a UPIN. But, this does not apply in most cases, only the situations outlined above.

That being said, I'm currently away at college--when did they redo the 4473s again?

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that it was the FFL who was responsible to keep your information, and that the ATF was required by law to erase/destroy it after about 20/30 days? Unless you were buying the firearm FOR an illegal or an illegal steals it, if the above statue still holds, I fail to see how this whole thing is a problem, unless you put your SSN on the form. The FFL holds the 4473 for 20 years--the ATF does not.

To me at least, the biggest travesty here is the fact that the United States, a sovereign nation would voluntarily make ANY citizen's "personal" information available to another country, regardless of it's intended purpose. Folks can brand me as paranoid if they wish, but IMO this is wrong...PERIOD! Quite frankly it's none of Mexico's damn business even (IF) it were to be "only" available to Mexican LEO officials. Anyone who cares to do a little research will find that the Mexican government's record on anything regarding border security is laughable, as is that of the United States. Add to that the fact that the Mexican government is so absolutely corrupt and "in bed" with the Army, the Federales , the "coyotes" and the drug smugglers not to mention tens of thousands of ILLEGALS pouring across the border each month. Hell folks the Mexican government even prints fliers, detailing the best times places, dates, routes and methods to enter US territories complete with locations of water caches. Tax-free wages sent home by illegals currently constitute Mexico's 2nd largest economic income. So to blindly assume that somehow their government would NOT use SS information to the detriment of the US citizens is naive and ignorant at best. Whether individuals on this forum choose to include their SSN's on 4473's or not is a moot point. The fact IS thousands HAVE and will CONTINUE to do so. So it's not just a matter of whether you or I have a "dog in this fight". I suggest that those (who think that this information wouldn't be used for nefarious purposes) visit a Kinko's, and have several dozen duplicates of his/her SS card printed and intentionally "loose" them in parking lots and at check-out counters. What would you wager your chances would be of NOT eventually being a victim of " identity theft".? MY God folks Mexico already has a "cottage industry" producing all manner of illegal, forged and counterfeit documentation. Why would we entertain the thought supplying them with even MORE???:banghead::cuss:
