The possible war in Iraq is looming heavy over men on the Winston Cup tour, and some of Michael Waltrip's first words yesterday after finishing third in the Winston Cup tour's third event of the season were to ask everyone to stand behind President George W. Bush.

"I just think we're a country, and he's our leader, and we need to unite behind him and support the decisions he makes," Waltrip said. "To turn your back on the flag or to protest at this time just hurts my heart. I pray for the president and our country, and I just ask people to support the system and be behind him."

Gotta love those Nascar guys!

Heh... Mikey... My friends and I call him "the chicken." Anybody remember that NAPA commercial where he yells "I'm at the wrong track!" and runs off? Well, he runs like a chicken.

People seem to think that NASCAR is a bunch of slack-jawed yokel rednecks who like turning left a lot, when it is actually a collection of some of the most talented, articulate, and just plain funny people you can find. It appears that rational thought is another trait displayed by at least one, and probably all, of them.

DU is going crazu dissing the Nascar guys!

Boy did his comments PO the DU people.

They have a thread going where everyone is dissing all Nascar fans and drivers, "they are all hicks anyway, aren't they?" Plus a bunch of "he has no right to speak out like that".

Of course if Martin Sheen speaks out, and people stop watching West Wing (and they are dropping in the ratings) that's censorship of the McCarthy kind.

What a bunch of whiny weak-kneed hypocrites. I think the best news I get is the increase in whining and gnashing of teeth there every time I check. They really, truly believe that they are right, and all those Nascar fans are just too stupid to know better.

I think that article today by Peggy Noonan is so incredibly on the money about the Democrats shooting themselves in the foot ever chance they get.
