Hey guys, I'm looking into a handgun vault for a M&P 9mm (FS) that will be arriving for Christmas. I'm wanting it to either be for the nightstand, or inside of a drawer in the nightstand.

I found the GunVault Microvault and was wondering if anyone has any experience with one?

I'm also open to other suggestions.

My requirements are:
1) that it is large enough to accommodate my M&P and an extra magazine
2) that it is quick access; doesn't need a key or a combination lock that I have to visually see to operate

Thanks for the help!

Read some reviews, I was going to buy one then I read a lot that said that the batteries die quickly. I wouldn't count on anything electronic in an emergency.

Have you considered one with a mechanical push button lock? Simple and reliable and operates quietly.

Quick clip of how it presents the gun to you with a gas assist strut.

I have both a mini and a multi Gunvault.... both are the std. push button models.

I think they're great.

very fast access (2 to 3 seconds max)

very secure when bolted to something hard.

AA NiCad batteries last for years in them.

One by the nightstand, the other by the kitchen island.

Nobody ever seems to notice the one in the kitchen, though it's in plane sight.

It's near the dogs bowel and I think most people think it's some kind of automatic dog food dispenser

I have the standard sized gun vault and the deluxe (larger version). The larger one had a faulty door mechanism and was sent back and replaced. No issues since. Rapid electronic access, key access is needed, and when bolted to a surface it is reasonably secure. I prefer the standard sized one however, and it is cheaper. Does the job.

I'm sorry to stray from the topic but the line about the dogs bowel being an automatic dog food dispenser caused me to blow coffee out of my nose.
It is, in a way, but after processing so to speak. ;)

My wife bought me one last Christmas and I love the thing. The batteries are the same Duracells that I originally put in and they work just fine. I get into the vault about every day as the M&P40c in there is also my carry pistol. I've been very very pleased with it.

Mine came with an AC cord that plugs in the side. I've yet to use it, but it's there if I need it.
I have absolutely no complaints and would readily recommend one to anyone wanting a "ready to go" firearm accessible in a couple seconds though inaccessible to those who shouldn't have access.

The last I looked at one a few years ago, it cost well over $100 and required 8 AA batteries. I like to use lithuim batteries for their excellent shelf life, but 8 batteries just to run a combination lock is ridiculous.

I just purchased a Stack On brand for $55 from

It is very sturdy and well made, and it only requires 4 batteries. I am very pleased with it.

Mine works well. Should be plenty of room for your M&P. Here is a full size 1911 shown as if it had a light attached, wth room for a spare mag.

The FAS1 is a very good quality product. I use one in an automobile. No batteries, and it's much more substantial than any of the GunVault line.
