The Glock 19 fills a niche between the full sized duty guns and the subcompacts that are out there. As with all things, it is a compromise, but it offers better handling & shootability (for me at least) when compared to the subcompacts while being easier to conceal than a full size.

I previously had a G19. It was a great gun, but I wasn't a huge fan of the ergonomics. I ended up trading it for something else, but now I find myself wanting something to fill that niche. It is quite possible that I may end up with another Glock, but my question is this:

What other compacts are out there that I should consider that are similar in dimension to the G19?

Using the G19 as a baseline, my requirements would be this:

- No wider than the G19
- No longer than the G19
- Grip frame / handle can't be more than 1/2" longer (preferrably not a subcompact w/ mag extension )

Suggestions?

Ruger SR9C & S&W M&PC 9mm would be the two obvious choices. The Kahr CW9 looks interesting too. It's pretty small but still has a longer grip than the smallest Kahr 9mm's.

Had a CW9, nice gun, easy to carry but not much fun to shoot. Had a G19, harder to carry, but ok to shoot. Have a Ruger SR9C now which is easy to carry and fun to shoot. I'm really happy with the change. The Ruger has been reliable and very accurate.

I think the best match for that would be a G19.
The gen 4 ones have changeable backstraps so you can tweak the ergos a little. If you want a more straight-up 1911 grip angle I'd look at the springfield XD or XDM.

Sig P228 (Just a bit longer)
Sig P229 (Just a bit longer)
Sig Pro SP2022 (Might be a bit too long)
FNP 9 or newer FNPX-9
CZ P01/PCR Decocker DA/SA
CZ Compact Steel DA/SA Safety no decocker

Honestly for your specific task it is hard to beat the Glock 19. The criteria you have listed is what makes it one of the best wonder 9s on the market.

Actually I had my new Glock 19 gen4 at the range with my friend and his S&W Sigma SW9VE (which he bought off of me). The Sigma is really close in size to the Glock 19 (just a bit longer in barrel and grip).

I think the ergos are a little better on the Sigma, honestly. But I love the gen4 texture on the Glock.

Ruger Sr9c

As someone above stated this is a great gun to consider. Tried the Glock 26 and the 19. The Sr9c is right in the middle. Just right.:) If you want a full grip without extensions better just get another Glock 19. Either way you can't go wrong.

The Walther is a good suggestion.

I'd look at the Steyr. The M9/M9A1 are just about the same size. If it is too big (if the 19 is okay size wise the Steyr is too) consider the S9

Spingfield EMP is a good choice, off the top of my head I'm not sure of its exact measurements.

The kahrs are smaller, big enough to shoot well but easier to carry. They have half the ammo capacity.

S&W MP series, XD, and the other usual suspects are all worth a look.

The Commander size 1911 falls right it there size wise with the Glock 19 and is thinner in the slide and holds 9 rounds of .45 ACP.

For the size and ammo capacity, it is hard to beat the Glock 19. I haven't had a chance to handle the compact XD or M&P, but they seem to fill a similar niche to the G19.

While I like Sigs, they tend to be bulky for their capacity. I have a P225/P6 and it is very similar in size (including width) to the G19 (my carry gun), while only holding 8+1 of 9x19. The P228 and P229 are more comparable to the Glock in capacity, while I think the P239 is smaller than the P225 but again is only 8+1. If capacity is not a big concern for you, the Sigs may be a way to look--it is not a big deal for me either, but the ergonomics of the Glock fit my hand well so it is what I use.

I'm with Frank (above) re: S+W. The 6906 is closer in size and weight to the G19. It's an aluminum frame compact double-stack, also a "TDA" ("Traditional Double Action"). The 5906 is steel-framed and "full-size". More a "duty gun" than a concealed carry gun.

In "modern", plastic, striker-fired, S+W also offers the SD9 as kind of like a step above their Sigma and a step below their M&P. I haven't handled one yet but I've read it compares favorably, size-wise, to the G19. If grip angle was not quite right in the Glock for you, it may be worth a look.

The P01 is darn near the exact size of the G19, except its heavier and fatter. I could not get the CZ into the G19 holster as the bulbus nose was just too fat. I just recieved a holster for my CW9 today, and its a way nicer IWB carry option over the G19, course you give up capacity for that slimness, but you retain a full grip on the weapon.

Wish the holster was black, but the price was right......

I own and often carry a CZ-75D PCR. Like the others have said it is superb and fits your specs.

I was torn between a Glock G19 and my current daily beater. I chose the CZ 75D PCR for my 9mm compact carry weapon. It is thinner than it's numbers describe, and a better shooter than most compacts, and many fullsize pistols. I trust mine, it does what I need it to do better than most would. Why did I choose it over a G19? Loaded chamber indicator, fully supported slide inside frame, DA/SA with decocker, all metal and it fits my hand like a glove. If you are comfortable with a 9mm pistol for a CCW then the CZ PCR deserves a look.

Can anyone give me information on a Pietro Beretta(E57597Y) 9 short 380 auto model 84F?? Year manufactured and it's value??
