Just want to give you guys the heads up, the Military Channel gots a new show on tonight called weaponology, and tonights episode will focus on long range sniper rifles.:D There is also a new episode of futureweapons on Discovery Channel tonight. Check your local listings for times.

Thanks for the heads-up. Just set the DVR.. Wife has to watch fripping SuperNanny......:fire:

As to gun porn on TV, I prefer those carried by the hunting and sports channels.

There are new and interesting programs once in a while at the Military Channel, but I have to agree it's mostly reruns, and a lot of embedded advertising for the military recruiters. I really miss the Discovery Wings it replaced.

Military channel. Good stuff. I rarely watch anything except the military channel, history channel, discovery, or occasionally the sports channels.

Errr, did anyone else catch that they repeatedly referred to the "Barrett AS-50 sniper rifle"?? C'mon guys, cut AI a break. Being chambered in .50 BMG doth not a Barrett make.

There were a bunch of other nitpicky little things about it I found annoying...like the line about scopes becoming so advanced they can now magnify things up to ten power! Wooowee!!!

On a larger note, they really missed out on explaining the differences between anti-material and anti-personnel. The whole show seemed to revolve around the final statement that the "Barrett AS-50" is the be-all end-all sniper rifle, without ever scratching the surface of explaining what fifties are really for, in comparison to rifles like the M24 or SR-25.

It always disappoints me when History Channel shows forgo detailing a topic in depth for reiterating basic, generic facts over and over. It would be nice if for once they aired something that showed actual current knowledge and comprehension of the subject matter, aimed for a mature and relatively well-informed audience.

I would point out that the Food Network has been reasonably progun.

I watched Ming Tsai go hunting and explain the workings of his shotgun.

Anthony Bourdain, when he had a Food Network show, went to a range in Cambodia and shot fully auto Soviet pattern guns and enjoyed it. He also has hunted or gone with others.

There have been other wild game shows and shotgun sessions. Alton Brown is interesting. I've seen him use 'tactical knives' like a Sypderco Police model and lights that look like Surefires.

I remember Food Finds with Sarah Pickney doing some cowboy SAA stuff.

Thus, do not attack the Food Channel!

Okay, as I sat flipping through channels on our brand new couch looking for something to watch, I said to my Girlfriend that I love dearly BTW,,, " Oh, wow, this looks good!" And then I heard (much to my dismay) "Are you joking?" I did DVR the program for when she is not around... I did manage after that to watch a program on nuclear proliferation... Don't ask me how that one got by!

What's puzzling is that the hour before Weaponology, they had Future Weapons on Militray Channel's parent station Discovery with Mr. SEEL shooting the AS-50. He had surprisingly identified it correctly as an AI gun. (Being at AI to shoot the gun probably helped him out there.) The footage on Weaponology was the same used in the FW show. What was funny, though, was how Mr SEEL kept on saying incendirary instead of incendiary.

Did you note the flex on the scope, mount, and gun under slo-mo recoil?

I noticed that. I was wincing whenever he mispronounced it. For a super-duper-spec-ops-highspeed commando he sure seems to get things wrong when it comes to terminology. He does shoot pretty well from what I've seen though.
I only caught about half of it before my gf said "can we pleeeze watch something else" (she's pro-gun but doesn't share the same tastes in TV programming as I) so I had to DVR the rest and watch Scrubs, haha.

Military channel.....beats the heck out of the food network stuff.

Excuse Me ????:scrutiny: I've picked up some really great recipes and ideas from the Food Network. And at least the Food Network doesnt play the same shows over and over -on auto cycle-. Also, the Food Network is actually pretty pro-gun believe it or not. Have you ever watched it?

If you missed the show on the long range sniper weapon last night, dont worry, chances are it'll be playing throughout the day. Gotta work today? No problem, it'll probably be playing every 3 hours tommorow.

They could instantly double their viewers if they replaced the SEAL dude on Futureweapons with Rachael Ray! :p

I checked the "upcoming times" for Futureweapons and it looks like that episode will play about 6 more times in the next week.

So, what's cookin' on the Military Channel?.... :D

The military channel has some good and very interesting stuff. It also has a lot of stuff that is not worth watching. Like most of the cable channels. There is about 5 hours a week worth watching after you account for the reruns. I catch maybe an hour of that. How much TV time can anyone person have and still shoot and reload?

I watched one of the reruns last night. I must have missed him referring to it as a Barrett, cuz he said Accuracy International quite often. As to the person who said incendirary instead of incendiary, maybe he has trouble saying incendiary, people do have problems saying some words. You guys are pretty harsh on him, you ever think some of the stuff he says is scripted and he has no choice on what he says or does? Somebody posted an article a couple days ago that had an interview with him and how he is obviously pro gun. The guy is on our side....nobodys perfect.

On to the actual show. I was surfing the net trying to get an idea as to what the AS50 would cost. I found AI's bolt action .50 cal and saw the price and generously added $3000 for a semi auto version. AI wants $12,000 for their bolt action AW50, so you're looking at atleast $15,000 for the AS50. For that price you can get a Barrett 82A1 package with the Leupold scope and such and still have around $6,000 left over for reloading stuff and ammo, or another gun or 20. That's outrageous for a 5 shot semi-auto.
