Millennium Pro V, XD

I chose the PT-745 MilPro in stainless over the XP. And it's a .45, no arguments about not enough gun, there.

I liked the ergonomics a LOT better, it just fit my hand naturally, and the XD looks too much like something that ought to be offered by Lego.

Plus Taurus has that lifetime warranty. Hard to beat that one.

Springfield has a lifetime warranty too. And considering the problems people have had with Taurus' warranty service I'd say it's quite easy to beat.

Why is it between the Taurus and the XD-40? I'm assuming they are both used or the XD is used? I'd rather carry the XD-45, but if I had to chose between just those two it'd be the XD-40.

Not sure about the Mill pro but I had a 24/7 pro and loved it as far as poly guns go. Never had an issue and felt better in my hand than the XD did. But my love for the 1911 got to me so I sold it and got another 1911.

I've owned the XD-9 SC, XD-9 Service, XD-45 Tactical, and sold all 3.

What did I end up with? A Taurus Millennium PT-111 Pro (SA/DA) and a S&W M&P...

Why did I end up with them? Ergonomics... Accuracy...

What would have made me keep the others? Better ergos, less blockiness, SA offering the Melonite finish on the 9mm versions and not just the .45...

The guns I kept simply feel better in my hands!

Warranty? Bah - I've never needed to use my Taurus warranty - what more can you ask for? And the S&W has lifetime warranty as well. I've owned a PT-99 in the past as well - no warranty work ever needed, at least 20,000 rounds through it! Only reason I sold that was because I came upon hard times financially!

What stories have you heard about the lifetime warranty with Taurus? Probably the same old story that a few select people were spewing forth onto every known forum about the 24/7 Pro in 45ACP... with the feed issues... that turned out to be a bad batch of magazines... Amazing what a few disgruntled people can do to a company's reputation!

S&W will have on the shelves soon a compact/subcompact version of the M&P - I will keep the Mil Pro but the M&P C/SC will be my primary carry pistol, simply because I like the trigger DAO setup better than the SA/DA of the Mil Pro...

I think that if you look around you can still get the DAO Millenium PRO models (often NIB) if you want one- just not from Taurus.

Just throwin' that out there...

hey, if you can get 2 quick shots to COM with a Lorcin, reliably, then carry it!

I carry a 3" XD 9 subcompact when I must tuck my shirt, otherwise I am a S&W M&P Convert.

What stories have you heard about the lifetime warranty with Taurus?

The big one that stands out is a fellow on GlockTalk that had a failure with his Taurus and was just given the runaround over fixing it, he documented it VERY well. And it had nothing to do with the usual 24/7 magazine issue. It took them several months to fix something after repeatedly lying to him about "it's on the bench", "it's the next one up", stupid stuff like that you don't see with Springfield. Several people have had turn around time issues. When you have turnaround time issues you either don't have enough people or you have to many things coming back, either way it's not good for the customer.

Sure not too many people actually have big problems with their guns, but when you do the last thing you want is a hassle or someone jerking your chain.

I guess every company has it's times though of being short staffed. Is this the customer's fault? No... But being from a company that is in the same boat - short staffing - I would hope that customers would have a LITTLE understanding - TO AN EXTENT.

If a lot of people are out sick though, there is not much that even the best of manpower planning can do to handle that.. I personally manage a team of 16 people (myself counted into that), and with that I have to provide staffing for 24/7... We currently have a workload that would justify about 25 people on the team... Am I in the process of getting more people? YES, but in the meantime, I have run into days where manditory training on new products came up with short notice, which I had to give 2 people to, had 2 people have deaths in their family (verifyable), 2 out on scheduled vacation, and 1 more out sick.

This severely slowed down production, not to mention generated some upset customers. What did I do? I was honest with the complainers, and asked for a little understanding... And I got just that! from 100% of them!

I carry and love my Millenium Pro PT145, however, if I had the money and had to do it all over again...I would go for the new Taurus 1911 which will surely be the 2007 pistol of the year.

I wouldn't expect the customer to have any understanding at all. They pay for a product with the notion, as advertised, they will get service. When they don't get that, they have every right to be upset. Your understaffing isn't my concern and if everyone is on vacation, then it's obvious the problem is poor management, again not the customers concern. Don't promise service you can't deliver. Too many companies do this strictly for marketing and it's wrong.

Back to the topic at hand, I will probably get a Taurus 1911 too. As far as I'm concerned there is no reason to buy any other 1911 if they hold up well. If Taurus can make one with so many options for 1/3 the price as comparably equipt 1911s, then the others are simply overpriced and your paying for the name.

I'll reserve public comment on that last response. Original reply deleted.

But back to the 1911 - yes - agreed, no need to pay more if you can get the same stuff for less.. Brand names be damned.

Especially if it shoots reliably out of the box. I've never understood $1K+ guns that need a break-in period and lots of TLC and tweaking to make them even remotely reliable.

Sort of like when people buy Jaguars, I guess. They're always in the shop, but hey, they're expensive. :D

i would definetly take the xd for many reasons but for the most important reason is that I trust my and my families lives with a sprigfield more so than a taurus, that dosen't mean that taurus aren't good guns, but since i have a choice of what i am gonna carry then i choose the xd. if i had no choice that would be a different story.

what? accuracy? do you want a carry gu or a competittion pistol. I know my xd does better than most of other pistols in it's class, especially for a service gun. mine is capabale of better shooting than i am, one day that might not be the fact, but it has combat accuracy to spare.

ergonamics? i personally think that the xd has the best ergonomics around, but hey you disagree and that's cool.

melonite finish? they got that now on all there models.
sorry you didn't keep yours, and they didn't work out for you!

I own both the guns you have mentioned

I carriy the XD more. It is more accurate. better built and I just love it. But right now I have the PT145 on me now. If The XD comes out with and XD45SC the PT145 would be sold and gone.

Why not go over to the www.unitedforums.com and check out the Taurus forum and the other forums there? Is there not a Springfield forum folks? Just a thought. Since that is where the people who use them are at browse the forums and search the old threads.

But if you want to know what THR folks think, then it's also appropriate to post the question here.

I love my PT145

I have a PT145, and have never had a problem with it. I was really surprised when I started reading about the complaints people had about them (after I bought it, now I research a little first), because mine has been great. I carry it all the time, take it to the range regularly, and every time I pull the trigger, a bullet comes out the end and hits where I was aiming. What more could I want?

(Well, I did just buy a S&W 642 that I can put in my pocket  )

That's the case with most guns. 3 kabillion happy users who don't say a word and 5 or 6 people complaining on the internet that everyone hears.

Most of the big name guys don't have problems with 99.99% of their guns. It's too much a liability for them not to have a good track record.

Funny thing a lot of you mention ergonomics. This is precisely the reason I went with the Taurus, even though initially I had decided on a XD. The Taurus just felt like it was made for my hand, whereas the XD just felt awkward.

Well, I like both, but the Taurus probably gets the edge for a compact gun. To repeat the mantra, its the ergonomics. I have never held a compact gun that felt so "right" to me. Now, if we are talking about a mil-pro vs. a full size XD, I have to say that the "tactical" XD is fantabulous, and for the same reason: ergonomics. To be fair about the whole thing though, I am a fan of Taurus pistols, so my view might be a little biased.

As an aside:

What did I end up with? A Taurus Millennium PT-111 Pro (SA/DA) and a S&W M&P...

Interesting. I have never been a fan of S&W autos (with the possible exception of the S&W 1911), and so I never gave a second thought to the M&P. Then, the other day I was at the store and they had one, so for kicks I asked to look at it. Wow. I can't say that I am going to rush right out and buy one, but I have to say that I was pretty impressed. Glock and Springfield definitly have some tough competition in the Polymer market with that gun, especially given the support that S&W gets in the police market.
