I hate to be the fly in the ointment, but Illegal Guns is a codeword for ALL guns. Last Year NYC Mayor Bloomberg held a conference to ban "illegal guns". The srtategy is simple, make ALL gun illegal guns. Then have the NYPD make "sweeps for illegal guns". Did the same thing in Maryland. Tips to the Washington Sniper hotline, where neighbors would rat on their neighbors who owned Suspicious Weapons. After the two Muslim perpetrators were caught, the Maryland State Police and the Federal Government formed a task force and went to confiscate the "suspicious Weapons" with the investification of the DC Sniper case as justification. In Illinois, if you allow your FOID card to expire, ALL your guns become "illegal".

Now that they've had that epiphany, maybe they can go one step further and figure out that punishing the law abiding doesn't stop criminals from perpetrating criminal acts.

That's where they keep getting it wrong, and probably will again.

The gun is not the cause here, it's the fact that children were left unsupervised at 10 PM.

I don't even have kids and I know you don't leave kids unsupervised, ever.

They wander into pools and drown.

They get run over by cars.

They burn themselves on hot surfaces.

They cut themselves with sharp objects.

All such tragedies are caused by the negligence of their caregivers, not by swimming pools, not by traffic, not by hot surfaces, not by knives, and not by guns.

The fact that it happened to be a handgun that the child injured the other child with is completely meaningless. Kids are going to do dumb things, dangerous things, when left alone.

Don't forget that the guy who owned the gun was a felon. So, it was illegal for him to own the gun. Also, illegal to let a kid have access to it.

The great number of gun accidents are caused by people with a history of drug use or criminal behavior. This one included! No law prevented this guy from acquiring the gun ilegally nor forced him to act responsibly. So the statement by the mayor is an oxymoron. The same Mayor Bloomberg, the one insisting on seizing "illegal guns", seeks to gain access to federal gun registry information irregardless of whether there is an actual investigation. He also seeks to bring lawsuit against independant gun dealers in other states who are unfortunate enough to sell guns to people that illegally sell them in New York where they are misused by criminals. The FACT that the seller sold in good faith and had approval from the NICS of the FBI, is disregarded and Bloomberg slanderously refers to these dealers as "gun traffickers". Be ALERT and suspicious when you hear politicians talk and use terms like this. Former Dlaas Mayor Laura Miller attended Bloomberg's conference and was thoroughly indoctrinated. She could'nt understand why it wasn't "commonsense" to require a "microstamp" be installed on the hammer of every new gun in order to allow the empty casing to be traced back to the original weapon. I really tried to get with her on the phone and tell her that out of the 40 guns I own, there isn't a single one where the hammer directly contacts the cartridge.
