Well thats what I thought. And I am not ashamed. I haven't supported anyone yet. Just asking. Thanks for the replies.

Now, can you recommend a mid priced holo sight with reasonable battery life that would provide a useable dot in bright sunlight? I am not a gizmo guy so I don't look at this stuff very often. I was watching my youngest son play "Call Of Duty" and the rifle he was using had a holo/reflex type of sight on it that I thought might be cool to have.
 
I've got one of these on my GSG-5, works great and it was only 50-60 bucks. There's many that make ones that look just like this, burris, etc. No reason to go full EoTech except on the rifles you really care about. EoTechs can take serious physical punishment, similar to Trijicon ACOGs. You can drop the rifle on the ground sight first and it'll still work. These however, will shatter into a million pieces. Just take good care of things and you'll get your money's worth.

Ultimak bases that mount directly over the barrel will get too hot with prolonged shooting, and have the potential to damage or at least distort any optics so mounted.

Ultradots have good reviews. They advertise 20,000 hours battery life. With the 1 inch version you can mount one on your mini with factory Ruger rings.
 
Ratshooter, which one and what weapon? there's a variety of optics used in those games.

I'm not sure what site they use. It is one that has a flat screen and not a tube like a scope.

Hoodfu I looked at the link. I am not sure which site you have. The top right and second row left is what the game rifle had on it. Sort of. I don't play those games. Just watch my kid.

The Utilmak base over the barrel doesn't do it for me. I want a base that will fit the factory scope ring cut outs and not have to remove the rear site to mount it. Who makes the ultradots?
 
there are some decent reviews on some of the aimpoint clones. and I've had decent luck with the $45 truglo red dots. if you want to go cheap. stepping up a bit you might look at the vortex strikefire and the ultradots.
 
Try Primary Arms (PrimaryArms.com), they get great reviews on AR15.com and rimfirecentral.com.

The guy that runs it has a great reputation for being responsive and responsible. He tries to get everything right...and if it isn't, he will fix it.

He has the clones as well as the Vortex Strikefire and SPARC.

This is exactly where I'd go for an inexpensive dot.

True and they are not cheap enough either. The 65MOA circle distorts if you look at it off center.

For a little less get the Vortex StrikeFire. Or for about half get the Barska M16 Electrosight or the Sightmark Aimpoint knock off. These will work well enough for non-critical purposes.

The Mini is not a great choice for Optics that don't fit the Ruger proprietary rings.

Ultradots are very popular for bullseye pistol competition, where they are mounted on 1911s. Some shooters use frame mounts, but many mount the scope on the slide. The Ultradots take that beating, and keep working perfectly. The Mini-14 beats on optics, also, but I doubt it beats on them as much as a slide-mounted pistol scope gets bashed.:)

The only problem is that I don't know if they make one that's appropriate for the Mini-14. A 10 MOA dot would be a good match for mine.:D
 
Thanks guys. I checked out primaryarms. I also looked at the ultradots. Those look pretty good too.

When the magnification is turned up on the ultradot does the dot get bigger? I hope not. Also do you have a guess on what the battery life is? It didn't say in the reveiw of the sight.

I'm not looking for dirt cheap. I wasted a lot of money buying cheap scopes years ago. I learned my lesson. Finally. I don't need a $500 sight either. I'm not headed to Bagdad. LOL.

When I used to shoot falling plate matches back in the early 90s several shooters had aimpoints on their guns. They were very fast to get on target. I put a BSA (that says it all) on my lever action 357. It lasted about 100 rounds before the dot became a blob. It sure was fun for a while though.
