The biggest thing i took from this case is that it is foolishness to leave a shotgun or any weapon laying around loaded where someone with little to no knowledge on it's use can access it.
She claimed she did not pull the trigger. Well we all know that is not a possibility. But it is easy to see how someone with little to no firearm know-how could inadvertantly shoot the thing.
I do not believe she intentionally killed that man, but from what I have read in the paper from testimony he was a real scumbag sleazeball when parishioners were not around. Forced sex, forced viewing of pornography, physical and mental abuse etc.... Not that in itself deserved being killed over. She should have waited until he was in the pulpit, grabbed the kids and fled to her parents. Shooting you spouse is rarely a solution. Firearm accidents give all legal gunowners a black eye.
My wife and daughter have expressed no interest in learning how to properly handle a gun. Therfore the guns are kept in a locked safe where no one but me knows the combination. The wife does know she can get the combo from the safe company in the event I am incapacitated. (it's an electronic keypad lock and I assume there is some master combination as the safe company claims to be able to unlock it in the event the combo is lost, you do have to prove ownership of the safe. It would take a few days at minimum I believe)
my 2 cents on the trial and non-gunny wifeys having access to guns.
