I just bought a brand new MK-40 to accompany my K9 and K40 and seems like a rellay nice gun. However:

When activating the magazine release, the mag only falls out a short distance and must be manually removed from the gun. It fails to drop free. This occurs with both magazines when loaded or unloaded. Is this a design feature of the MK series or did I get a bad mag release?

My MK40 does the same. I've don't shoot .40 anymore (.45 or 9mm now), so I haven't given it much thought.

My PM9 backup virtually throws the mags out, however.

Mine will drop free loaded or not. I got mine in March of 2000 or so. Fairly low serial number.

Perhaps the grip screws are interfering? Mine's not here right now, or I'd check. They may need to be trimmed a tad so as to be tight and not interfere.

Actually, I examined it with both grip panels removed and it appears to be caused by the mag catch inside the frame rubbing the front of the magazine body. It's noticeable with the 5 rnd mag and atrocious with the extended mag.

I'm wondering if I can replace the magazine catch with one from a K40 and solve the problem. Anybody have a suggestion?
