I got into a fender-bender on the interstate last week (a 17-year-old driver in front of me panic-stopped and I rear-ended him), and my lovely 10-year-old convertible is likely a total loss. :( Hey -- at least no one got hurt. Cars are really quite replacable.

When the state trooper arrived on the scene, I already had my permit and driver's license out and showed both to him, saying, "Just so you know." This is in front of the other driver.

He said, "Is it on you?"

I replied, "Left hip."

"Just don't go for your left hip," he said with a smile.

"I have a lockbox in the trunk if you'd prefer," I offered.

He told me it wasn't necessary, and that was the end of it. The other driver probably never even knew what the exchange was about.

He filled out the initial report, and stayed at the scene with his lights flashing (reducing the likelihood of getting smashed into by another clueless
driver) until the tow truck had loaded up my car.

They should all go like this. And for me, with Minneapolis PD, Eden Prairie [a suburb] PD, and now the State Patrol, they have!

This, in blissninny Minnesota.

I can only conclude that at least the cops here understand that law-abiding citizens aren't a threat.

We never have been. We never will be. I think most cops on the streets understand that; most political cops of high rank, however, understand what their political masters tell them to understand.

He had to ask? Either he's in Condition White, or you've got the concealed part down! ;) I usually 'make' the cops that come in the shop, but then I was raised by one, and took a year of courses before I found out my eyesight was out of specs for POST. ( I grew up in St.Paul) Where'd it happen?

Well, he's in Minnesota...

It's wintertime...

I'd say it's tough to "make" people who are carrying under a huge down coat. :p

Glad to hear nobody was hurt, and the cop was professional.

I lived and worked in the People's Republic of MN for nearly 20 years, and the only time I encountered a cop in his "professional" capacity was when I got rear-ended while waiting for the green at a stoplight. MN's CCW law has only been on the books for a couple of years, and you've ALREADY had what sounds like professional encounters with officers from three different jurisdictions?

Either you've had some really bad luck, or maybe you need a lighter foot on the gas pedal? ;)

(You weren't on a cell phone when you rear-ended the kid, were you?)

To answer several questions:

* It was about 7 degrees out. I could have concealed P95Carry's gun collection under my down parka.

* Yeah, the last two were speeding tickets. I do need to slow down a bit.

Excellent, its good to hear that all went well.

If that had been here, well............no telling how it could have gone. I've been rousted for having guns, in cases, in the back of my car when I was moving. I was going from point A to point B, and was going a little fast, they (she) stopped me, and while talking a bit noticed the cases in the back seat. Her whole demeanor changed, get out of the car, etc., etc.. :cuss:
