Back in the day I shot with the AMU, but that was before the day of STP. Rather we used stuff called Marvel's Mystery Oil in place of STP, and we used only one part to two of W10 and two of transmission fluid. And we used plenty of it. The common wisdom was that you had enough oil on/in your pistol if it dripped off your elbow when you extended your arm to fire. Obviously, this wouldn't have been very wise in field conditions.

Eezox in no way resembles any oil/grease! It's more of a liquid treatment, very thin, flows like water. I use it first after deep cleaning my guns. Smells like skunk piss. One of the best corrosion protectors though! I follow it up with my lube of choice. CLP, Gunbutter, Tetra grease, etc.

Yep, I've been using motor oil for many years...presently using Automatic Transmission Fluid mixed with STP oil treatment...before that; Amsoil 20w50 MC oil, Amsoil 10w30 synthetic, Amsoil mixed with some STP, 15w40 HDEO, regular 10w30, etc, etc... They've all worked well. I like the ATF/STP mix as well or better than the rest...it's effective, readily available, and cheap! Plus, that STP sure will make it slick ! Hmm, I've got some Marvel Mystery Oil too, I might add a little of that just to make it smell good ! ;)

I used dry silicon lubricant for the rails on my M249 and M9. It doesnt attract dirt or sand like wet lubricants do.
For corrosion prevention CLP works but I prefer WD40 on the exterior of my weapons and I used it throughout the entirety of my Remmy 12ga, the action is a smooth as a babies butt.

I like that formula better than the one with STP and wrote it down for future use, but I'm really happy right now with CLP for rotating stuff and lithium grease for sliding stuff. ;)
