The Conquest line is now the $$$ Conquest HD. The new Zeiss Terra has replaced that price point of $399-ish. A VX-3 3.5-10X or even the fixed power FX-3 6X42mm would be great options as well. But for the price, the new VX-2 or FX-2 Leuplds are tough to beat.
sorry, been gone for a few days. figured a bit more out about this rifle. apparently in the late 90's and early 2000's winchester made a push feed, blind magazine black shadow that was sold in walmart (could have been in other places as well) with a "w" on the stock. this is different than the typical black shadow in that the trigger guard is the only metallic part on the bottom. THIS turned out to be the rifle i was talking about. since learning this, i will likely abandon the idea and will probably just turn it into a truck gun and put a decent older model leupold, etc, on it. since i will have nothing in the rifle when i get it, it would make a good pig gun to have in the truck when im driving around the dirt roads on Fort Rucker. thanks for the posts, i think im going to try one of these projects out anyway soon since i got myself excited and learned-up on the subject. would prefer to start with an ultimate or super shadow; the one posted above is very nice, excellent work.
$300 for a donor barreled action is too good to pass up. I'd find a way to get it into a fiberglass stock, even if it was a Bell & Carlson Medalist instead of a McMillan.
