My local Academy Sports and Outdoors is stocking two varieties of .223 55-gr. FMJ ammo by Monarch. For $2.86/20 one can purchase ammo in a small blue box marked "Made in Russia," or one can upgrade to a slightly larger green box, same caliber and load, but marked "Made in Serbia" for $3.86/20.

These prices compare favorably to my usual Remington or Winchester in the $4.50 - 5.99 range per 20, but...I know "you get what you pay for."

Any feedback on this particular ammo line? Would it make good plinking fodder and nothing more and/or should I be snapping this stuff off the shelves like a madman at these low prices?

i like to use the gray/blue boxes for my semi's and the black green boxes in my bolties, they are a pretty good round, easily minute of bunny at 100 yds. they are worth the extra dollar in my opinion.

I shot my buddies Mini 14 with that ammo yesterday and I have to say that it worked for the most part however it had corrosion on some cartridges and the cases seemed to be made of very thin brass. All in all I'd say if it's for plinking and you have no intention of handloading it's probably fine. The accuracy was actually pretty reasonable. <2.5" @ 50yds offhand.

Thank you for the feedback...I've picked up now a couple hundred rounds of both varieties, even a 20-round box of their JSP for kicks...I'll try it all out next range visit!
