God bless Montana. She'll need it. I see this being a major uphill battle beyond passing legislature. Still, I support them 110% and hope other states follow her example.

And just a couple weeks ago I said state nullification was dead. I'm glad to see I was wrong.

(4) a firearm that discharges two or more projectiles with one activation of the trigger or other firing device.

Does this include a shotgun firing buckshot?

My God they are using the 9th and 10th Amendments.....Jefferson is smiling.

This will be a fight. The Federal Govt wont go down lightly. But Bills/laws like this are the only way to stop WashingtonDC's march towards socialism.

But it will take mentally and fisically strong states to do it. As always...we the people are the key.....

Thinkin this can also be used to let the people protect themselves........."In the war on terror" (where is the dramadic music intro) and prevent what happened during Katrina......and real border security

Any decentralization at this point is welcomed

Great news!

Of course it just absolutely sucks that we have to jump and cheer, and question how or if the federal government will stick to the Constitution.

NOTE: The 2nd amendment was just that - AN AMENDMENT - not only does it #1)articulate and protect a natural right, it is a change to the Constitution, in this case one which #2) overides anything previous in the Constitution that would infringe on the right to keep and bear arms...especially a clause the does not explicitly give Congress that power...the State commerce clause included.

The government having to rely on its commerce powers to regulate arms - specifically their manufacture, possession or their use, is obviously an encroachment into the people's right to keep and bear them. When 3/4 of the States ratified the 10 out of the 12 proposed Amendments, they agreed that what is known as the Bill of Rights would amend, and become part of the law of the land,...PERIOD! (until subsequently amended)

So - what happens when some short barreled shotgun stamped "Made in Montana" gets used in a crime in California?

Well, in that case a crime will have been commited. because it would be against federal law to take such a weapon out of the state of MT.

Is there any way for us out-of-state people to show our support for those in the Montana legislature working to get this bill passed? Elected officials need to know that people think they're doing a good job.

Conceivably, you could call them, say you're out of state, but that their support of this bill would make you consider moving to Montana and becoming one of their constituents.

Flipping open my history book from 2057......

"And this new law in Montana is what many consider to be the first act in the Second US Civil War, also referred to by the victors as 'The War of Eastern Aggression'."

;)

Too bad they do not have any teeth in the bill it seems.

"Anyone ( including all federal LEO's, and any court officer ) who attempts to infringe upon this right is guilty of a 1st degree felony, punishable by a minimum of 25 to life. "

Would the governor there sign it??

Democratic governor Brian Schweitzer would sign it, I believe. Like ALL Montana politicians, he is pro-gun. If you aren't, you don't win election. BTW he made a nice appearance on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart a month or two ago, putting in a nice plug for RKBA.

Well, if it does, someone will challenge that section, to have it removed after the original bill passes. :D

JUst drop the whole line.

Go Montana!

Yep, the beginnings of a move toward rational government. I'll have to get on the horn and call my old pal Bob and see what he's thinking right now.

Well, if/when this passes, and when the feds move in to Montana to spank you all for stepping out of line and having the nads to defend your rights, I will pack up my gear and stand the line with you. Take me all of 3 hours to get to the border.
