You're invited: Mother's Day Rally in Washington, D.C.
This Mother's Day, Sunday May 9, join the thousands who will be gathering at Capitol Hill to rally for the assault weapons ban to be renewed. We'll make it clear that President Bush must live up to his promise to keep illegal assault weapons like AK-47s and Uzis out of our neighborhoods. There are less than 50 legislative days for Congress to take action, or the assault weapons ban will expire this summer.
Our protest on Mother's Day is one of many events taking place across the country to make sure the ban is renewed. We've also held press conferences with police chiefs in major cities nationwide. And after Mother's Day, our "Halt the Assault" tour will keep pressure on the President in key 2004 battleground states.
The main event starts at 11 am on the West Lawn of the US Capitol in Washington, DC. Great weather is expected. Bring water, a blanket and a few of your best friends. Be prepared to hear powerful speakers and performers, including:
Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr.
Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer
Representative Carolyn McCarthy
District of Columbia Mayor Anthony Williams
Law and Order's Richard Belzer
Fashion designer Kenneth Cole
NBA Coach Don Casey
Best-selling author Richard North Patterson
Police Chief Charles Moose
If you can't come, then please help by donating gas money to the "Halt the Assault" bus tour that will travel across the country to educate other Americans about why we need to unite to keep assault weapons off of our streets.
Sincerely,
