I took my newest Cooper Arms rifle (Montana Varminter in .204 Ruger) to the range today to try and shoot some decent 100 yard groups. I wanted to finished the barrel break in and then see what it could do. The range was great today. Very few people with a 5-7 MPH wind which was moving straight away from me.

I was shooting 32 gr V-Max ammo from the Hunting Shack.

4K FPS of pure fun! :)

I shot 20 three shot groups. The worst group was .446". I shot 3 consecutive groups of .186", .296" and .266". These ended up being the best.

The shot of the day?

I scored a headshot on a dragonfly at 100 yards using my Cooper MTV (with a witness, my buddy on a spotting scope, who told me to try for it's head when it landed on my target).

Damned if we didn't walk out and find the body less the head.

Good stuff! Finished the day with lunch on the water at our favorite after shooting watering hole.

Wow

Nice groups, very nice. That's a good rifle and even better rifleman. Congrats. My best group 100yd group out of my ruger 223 HB varminter were covered by a quarter. I suspect a dime would cover those groups with some room to spare.

Sweeeet shootin' there Big Daddy! I'm seeing and reading a whole lotta' good stuff on the Ruger .204 cartridge - consistantly will either vaporize ground hogs or flip 'em 15 feet into the air - yeah... :D

I spent a week this past June with a friend of mine from California at his Mom and Dad's retirement house in Hot Springs, South Dakota. My friend's Dad knows all the ranchers and set up a nice P-dog shoot for us. We killed approx 560 dogs on 630 shots. I was shooting my Tikka T3 Varmint in .223 while my friend was shooting one of his Cooper's in .204 (him and his Dad own 30 Coopers between them :what: ). My .223 put a hurting on the dogs but the .204 made them erupt! The sound of a .204 hit made a WHAP sound...sort of like a wet washcloth hitting a shower stall wall. I immediately bought the Cooper MTV once I got home and am planning to reload for it.

Here is a picture of a target shot by my friend (Lunde on this forum) using his reloads:

Thats disgusting.
I'd agree. He needs different artwork behind the rifle, something with a hunting scene.

Rifle like that makes hunting easier. Already got 'em gutted. Now finish the skinning and they're ready for the pot.
