More females at the LGS?

Been married for 17 years and just in the past couple years she had gotten into shooting. She bought her first pistol last year and has since got a few more...even a 1911! She finally got her CHL earlier this year. She is always asking when we are going shooting next!

I still dont know what started it all but I love the fact that she likes to shoot too. She came from a family where her father hunted but didnt own a pistol and she never owned a bb gun....I told her there is something wrong with a country family that didnt own a bb gun or a .22! At least our kids are growing up around them and shooting a lot. My 13 year old daughter loves shooting the ruger 10/22. She can tear up a target! My wife played saleswoman at the last gun show when a lady was looking at the same Kimber 1911 that she already owns. She talked about how great it was and how much she loved it. The lady turns to the salesman and says "I'll take it". I told her she needs to work at a gun shop!

I agree I am seeing more women at shows than 5 years ago. I think part of it is that more and more women do not want to be victims and with a firearm they can easily defend themselves. Personally I love it.

When at the LGS last weekend, there was an older black couple (guessing mid to late 50's) in the store looking at pistols. It was the woman that was looking at them and ended up buying a SR9c. Told her I really liked mine.

Pilot:

My wife was .22 only for a time. I slowly moved her up to 9MM so far. She is small framed and was really shy of recoil. I think it helped when we tried a golf glove since it seemed to help soften the kick a little. Probably not the best way to do it but we did that a couple of weeks then the glove came off. If your wife is reluctant to shoot larger calibers maybe you can try this.

I wanted her fairly proficient in any firearm we have so that's why I'm moving her up. I'd much prefer her carrying a larger caliber. She does shoot .22 the most but that's more of a tightwad thing on her part.:D

^^^^^^ Thanks. My wife will shoot 9MM, and .380, but not much, and lately not at all, just the .22. I don't want to push her, but I think the ideas of a shooting glove is good, and maybe I will get her electronic hearing protection also. It is the noise, and recoil that bothers her.

The most important thing we can do is bust the stereotypes. My aunt is as hippy as they come, and I'm working on her realizing that a gun is a tool, and doesn't make you a killer of animals, a redneck, a criminal, or a militia dude.

If we can separate the guns from the vast right wing conspiracy, we might be able to save the second amendment.

I bought my wife a Beretta Cheetah that she loves, but she doesn't 'love it' the way I love my guns. She is way less disinterested in it than the other guns I have in the safe. She did ask me to take her shooting tomorrow, so I guess that's pretty cool.

The range/LGS I go to has a lot of women and minorities there. Guess it helps that the staff there are all very friendly and helpful. Some folks mind having to wait for a lane at an 18 lane indoor range but I don't mind, there's always someone to talk to or guns to take a look at. :)
