I'm really set on getting one of these now. I'm looking for a 9mm suppressor for my Glock 26 and Beretta 92. I intend to use the suppressor at the range and for home defense. I was initially going to go with a YHM Cobra, but now I'm wondering if I could spend less on some other cans. Here are my questions:

In an effort to keep price down (I'm looking at the $500ish range suppressors), I'm wondering if I could get one of the suppressors without the Nielson Devices.

AAC makes the Spider which doesn't incorporate the Nielson device and works on a Beretta 92 and Glock 19- would it work on a 26 as well? If I don't use the Nielson Device, will the slide just slam into the back of the suppressor and mar the finish on both the suppressor and the slide? I'd really not like to spend this kind of money and find out that I bought an ill-functioning piece of junk that mars the finish on my guns.

Does the little AAC Scorpion really work? I know it's a "wet" suppressor, but if it's fired dry is it worthless as a suppressor?

The YHM Wraith also lacks a Nielson device. How is it in comparison?

What is the thread situation with the suppressors without Nielson devices? Can the threads be changed easily or is that something that is unique to the changeable Nielson devices? Are there thread adapters?

A good resource for silencer info is Silencertalk.com. Tkae with a grain of salt though that it is run by someone who works for one of the manufacturers and will be tilted toward their products. They still will be able to answer you questions about recoil boosters and thread concerns though.

It is really cool to see so much interest on the board recently about suppressors. They are a lot of fun.

Suppressor or Nielson device does not touch slide. Some use the device to overcome the resistance of the type of barrel lockup. Like the Glock and HK designs. Straight blowback guns like the Makarov or Beretta 22 have fixed barrels and have no need for a device like that. Find one in your price range and have at it. Find a local stocking dealer and find out if you can shoot one or two demo cans that they have in stock. Some run really good dry, others like the AWC that likes a little water. Is quiet without water, is scary quiet with water. Like someone dropping a book.

Does a CZ require a Nielson device? I don't have one, but in pictures I've seen some with and some without.

If you're referring to the CZ 75 and defivatives, it ought to require a Nielson device, since it has the same tilting-barrel lockup of a 1911, Hi-Power, Glock, USP, and other centerfire pistols taht aren't Berettas or Maks.

1) The AAC Spider and Scorpion have been out of production for years. You need to get updated info. Best place for that is silencertalk.com.

2) You absolutely, unequivocally need a Nielsen device if you plan on suppressing a Glock, or any other pistol with a Browning-type tilting barrel. It will be heinously unreliable if you don't have a booster.

3) Your budget of $500 is a perfect fit for the YHM Cobra 9, which has a Nielsen device. It is a good can and can be had for under $500 from Major Malfunction. I have a Cobra 45 and it is very pleasing.
